BEWARE International Data Roaming charges!!!

My advice is get a good lawyer to negotiate on your behalf with the cellular provider. I tried negotiating with them once and came last. If you PM me I will give you a good contact.

It happens all the time :(

Its a good scam.

If I was a SP, I'd let people know once they do more than their average a month... so if for 6 months they do 100MB and then suddenly do 300mb, I'd call them to find out if they know... ESPECIALLY if they are overseas... just courtesy!

This is the reason I travel with 2 cell phones.

1 stays on VC, the other gets a local prepaid SIM as soon as possible.

If Vodacom would have negotiated better roaming rates with their partners, I would not have had to do this.

Currently I have SIM cards for Botswana, DRC, UK, Kazakhstan - all with at least GPRS working.

Borat is that you ?

at least u still hav fighting chance, cellplus is now orange i gather, so then vc wont b able to do anything but emtel is mickey mouse so.... good luck with that....

as i said, look into banking law, if they dont sort you out with at least some kind of repayment plan, or if ur unhappy theres always the ombudsman

I wish I knew about this. I travel regularly to Europe and went to Morocco in January. My accounts to Europe wer never high and my roaming pattern stays the same. After 1 1/2 days in Morocco my personal account was suspended. On my return I phoned to query why my acount was suspended and was told that I owe Vodacom over R20 000. I was shocked and was told by the operator that I just have to pay. I do not use my phone to receive emails. Unfortunately my Blackberry Torch apparently connected for updates so therfore the account. I asked Vodacom to investigate and received my reference number on the 10th of January. I was told that they will get back to me in two days. I phoned them after two weeks and was told they are not ready with an answer. When I phoned again I was told that they investigated my roaming in September and found nothing wrong. At the time I was in Germany and accepted the extra charges as they were reasonable. I cannot believe that they did not suspend the account earlier as my spending never exceed R1 500. There is quite a big difference between the accounts. I am now aware of the roaming cost but a normal user have no idea what can happen.

Not to happy at the moment.

Rule of thumb boys, either go SMS only when roaming or , get prepaid,.....but for sure, leave you contract sim in good old SA....- the rates of data while roaming is total madness!!

@RPM: I don't think any further posts/discussions about data roaming costs should be allowed on MyBB unless it is good news, i.e. lower rates!
