Beware when ordering from RARU...

I'm currently also have issues with a very well known respectable company, but I will never call them a scam which is a harsh. Yes there are some fly-by-night operations out here. But Raru founded Take2 from what I recall which now is Takealot.
Read the thread from beginning till end, see the time frame and number of unhappy customers.

Me personally I see an issue with a company making a policy out of forcing customers to wait 6 weeks for refunds.

These are unfulfilled order refunds, not physical returns, so just send the money straight back.

There is no way to "deal" with this problem other than to avoid Raru all together or go in forewarned that if your order can't be fulfilled you will need to wait 4-6 weeks to get your money back.

For someone with a limited budget and in urgent need of something this situation can be a pretty serious predicament to be in.

Say you need a laptop for work or college, Raru takes your money but then there's no stock and they pointblank refuse to refund for 6 weeks, leaving the desperate customer stranded, out of pocket to look elsewhere.
In my case - way back - I bought Christmas gifts, they repeatedly missed their deadline - but gave me their assurance it would be delivered before we left for Christmas with family (think it was the 23rd). No delivery, and they couldn't have given a **** afterwards - their attitude in their responses also wreaked.

No thanks.

WARNING: Don't talk crap !!

I ordered lots of times from them over the years and never had a problem once.
I have exactly the same problem now with Raru. I also ordered a GPU in February and have been given the run around since then.

I made the mistake of ordering from Raru last year. Given the pandemic, and having worked in retail, the estimated turnaround time of 39 days didn't strike me as especially odd. Also, they were the only local retailer offering what I needed.

Forty-five days later, no sign of my order and no word from Raru. I dropped customer services an email asking them to confirm with their supplier that the item had been dispatched, and received a response blaming covid and in no way addressing my request. Two weeks later I submitted the same request, and received an almost identical response. I gave it another week, requested a refund, and joined 'the queue'.

Three weeks after THAT, with Raru still giving me the runaround, I got hold of the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman. I was refunded within a week.

Raru's business practices are dodge, at best. They'll give you the runaround, but as soon as I brought a regulatory body into the equation, they changed their tone pretty quickly. I'd recommend anyone having similar trouble get hold of the CGSO to check whether it falls within their ambit.

What is the norm now with Raru refunds. Anyway received their money back lately. I paid them in February for a GPU, requested a refund over a month ago and no correspondence since then or refund?

*checks hellopeter*
Yup...seems like their normal service when they can't deliver goods.

Never had issues with Raru, always delivered on time, and refunds were done next day.

Well this is just wonderful. I didn't know about any of this, and now I stumble upon this thread, after having ordered something really expensive from Raru. And now reading all the posts in this thread has me worried. And the cherry on the cake is I paid via debit card. So it seems, in the event that I do start running into issues with them, the best course of action would be to contact the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman? I guess all I can do in the meantime is pray that I end up in the lucky 1% that actually comes right with Raru. :cautious:

It would be great if we could have a pinned thread listing online retailers in South Africa that are still trustworthy and dependable and deliver good service. I for one had no idea that Raru and Loot had gone down hill since I haven't used either of them in a very long time. I'm not really sure what to do here. Raru claims the expected dispatch date for my item is 17 September. Should I wait until then and see what happens or should I just cancel the whole thing now and ask for a refund, (and possibly get the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman involved?) Also does Raru refund the entire amount you paid or is there some type of fee that they charge for trying to get a refund?

Absolutely never again. My son wanted a birthday present that we could eventually only get on Raru (after looking all over South Africa).
They had stock, placed the order well in advance of his birthday. Should have taken 4 days...because, you know, in stock.
1 week later I get a reply email (after asking where the box was) to say they don't have stock and were then having to order from the supplier. 3 weeks later we got it. They're either conning you to place the order under the false pretences there is stock, or you're placing the order and they're giving it to someone else because they never reserved the stock.

Loot can make you wait but no issues other than that, no issues with refunds which is the real issue with Raru.

Dont worry modern debit cards have the same protection as credit cards with online purchases, you can still open a chargeback when goods are not delivered.

I guess I'll wait until the 17th and see what happens. If I don't see "item dispatched" on my order by the end of day on the 17th then I'm going to raise hell. Even if by some miracle there are no issues with my order I won't use Raru again. It's very very disturbing how many complaints there are out in the wild against Raru. I can't believe they aren't under investigation due to the large number of complaints. Just another example of South Africa going down hill even more. What a disgrace of a country we live in.

It's nonsense like this that makes you not want to buy anything online ever again. After hearing all these horror stories I'm very reluctant to make big purchases online now.

Has anybody here used Everyshop? If so how are they?
