Bid or buy frustrations

A while ago, there was a guy selling ps3’s on bid or buy.
His rating at the time was just above 90%(it is much lower now) and I thought I would give it a go as I have examined the negative ratings and it was all from the same buyer, I thought it might have been an exception.

What a pain it has turned out to be though. The seller seemed to come up with a lot of excuses after payment was made.
He said that Bid or Buy did not want to release my money to him and therefore he cannot deliver my PS3.

I then queried this with BoB to verify and it was indeed true, this was their exact response:
“Hi *****

Thank you for your email. We are busy with the seller with regards to this, we have advised the seller that he needs to send the items off to the buyers, we will keep you posted with the proceedings of this, if the seller doesn't want to cooperate we will be refunding you. I do apologise for the inconvenience caused to you with regards to this. If you have any queries please don't hesitate to ask. Have a nice day.”

To which I responded:
“Hi,

Thank you for the response.
This is a good service and fully understood.
Thank you for looking out for the customers.

Kind regards,
**********”

Subsequent to this, I felt rather comfortable with the deal, knowing that BoB would not release the money until the goods were sent.
My response to the seller was to tell him that BoB have issues with him and he should sort that out with them.

I then proceeded to make a second purchase from the seller knowing (well thinking) that the money won’t be paid over unless the goods are sent.

Then when everything went South with the seller, I requested a refund and BoB informed me that they will refund my second purchase (which I have since received), but I have to obtain the refund for my first purchase from the seller as they have paid the money over. I was rather upset, as their e-mail indicated that they would not pay any money to the seller.

I accepted it and waited out the time frame for my refund (30 days).
Now that I have received no further communication, I e-mailed the seller as well as BoB (multiple times) and no response from either of them.
The seller might be dodging his responsibility but I find it very disappointing that BoB is not even responding.
I have since stopped using BoB, it is a pity that I had to lose money to make this decision.

Should I pursue this any further or just accept is as school fees for dealing with them.
I have had positive experiences as well, I just feel that BoB dropped the ball here after informing me that they would not pay any money over and still turn around and do that.

TLDR;

BoB states that they won't pay money to the seller unless he delivers.
They still pay funds to him, seller fails to deliver & promises refund.
Seller disappears, cannot get hold of seller or BoB regarding the situation.

Name and shame the seller ...

I find that Razark always sorts issues out at Bidorbuy

So normal story for BoB then..

offer no protection to the buyer and protect the seller pretty much... its no wonder I don't use them for anything.

Normal story for BoB... been burnt by them myself. NEVER EVER AGAIN!
The seller is always right... even if the seller is a skelm. I don't have time for one-sided crap.
If you continue to use BoB its your own stupidity

Yes I know the thread.

BoB has a lot to learn, especially from people such as eBay. Of course, again this is South Africa so everything has to INTENTIONALLY be third-rate.

I disagree. How many successful thousands of transactions do Bidorbuy process each day?
I am no great fan of Bidorbuy, but even here OP knew something was off and yet still does a second purchase, go figure?

eBay isn't all roses, had a few transactions go sour.

Never had a problem with BoB (generally preform a basic background search on sellers beforehand)

Just don't be stupid. If it's too good to be true, prob is.

Another BoB thread. And people still use them. They are a joke, there are more threads on here about BoB than gumtree, which is an open platform with almost zero protection.

haha, too scammy.

Lol. .even when BoB partnered/used that escrow service people got scammed. (By the escrow service if I remember correctly).

Your chances of getting scammed on Gumtree are less than BoB, there's no middleman that gets a fee from the seller.

I absolutely wouldn't let this go. Do you still have the email where BoB said they would refund you if the seller didn't cooperate? I would phone them on 0861 88 0861 rather than email. As far as I'm concerned it's their screw up if they released the funds before confirming the transaction was settled as they were made aware of the issue.

Bidorbuy is OK-ish, better than Gumtree anyway. Have had 90% good experiences with them.

They don't protect you when a seller doesn't deliver, but thisa isn't a school yard, they're not watch dogs.

Just check the ratings before bidding.

Hey, why did you edit out part of my post? It wasn't meant to be racist. I've had problems on BoB and Ebay when buying from China, or locally from people of that demographic. Bidorbuy has my emails and I'm still waiting for an answer.

The only reason why there was a second purchase was due to the fact that they would not release funds if the seller does not co-operate. It sounded safe enough to me, if the seller didn't deliver BoB would refund me. If the seller delivers, normal service resumes.

The fact is without that e-mail from BoB, I would not even have created a thread (nor have a second purchase to worry about). That statement created an expectation on my side, if the money was lost before then it would have been school fees.
I have had a few successful transactions as well. I usually also read through the ratings, which I did here as well.
At the time he must have had 3-5 bad ratings all from the same buyer, regarding coins (I figured it to be an exception). There were also positive ratings for previous ps3 purchases, it seemed reasonable at the time. Obviously I was mistaken.
