Remember, that this isn't much good news for people who are still stuck in their 24 month contracts, atleast until it's over. So the best thing to do now if you're not in a contract, is to wait about 6-8 months to see what happens. Stick with a month to month or prepaid for now.
we are pessimistic because: If it wasn't for fifa 2010 then there probably wouldn't even have been a seacom and telkom would keep on ripping us off for the next 10-20 years. Now that things seems like they should finally start to change, the more it seems to stay the same.
They just want to give the world a good picture of africa, as a continent where people can afford a decent living comparable to other places on earth.
As soon as the world cup is over they will go back to exploiting people for the little things again..
As long as the goverment owns and allows the regulator of our telecoms to charge us line rental fee's there will never be hope on the horison.

I think we should rather be harsher on our government, than on Telkom/Hellkom/Telscum, Neotel/Neohel, etc.
Remember, Telkom, and all the other telecommunications companies, are in it for the money, can you blame them? They're big businesses whose priority is maximising profits. They only have concern for doing good in the public's eyes when it affects their image. That's just how business works, all over the world.
However, our government's priority is the interest and wellbeing of it's citizens and the stability of the country. That means they need to be investing our taxes and whatever other income into developing the nation where it needs to be developed.
One of the most important areas that need deeloping is our education and employment opportunites. If we can get that up to standard and beyond, then everything else should, in theory, fall into place. I believe though, that they lack the vision to see that and take hold of opportunities and spearhead projects like SEACOM and ESSAY and the likes.
The digital age requires that every human being be computer, and internet literate if they are to survive and be successful and contribute to their communities and the world. Soon, it's going to be extremely difficult for people to live in a world of computers if they can't operate one at all.
We need to follow the examples of India, and Korea, and Singapore, and China. Where their governments' invested millions and billions and trillions into developing their telecommunications infrastructure. Just see how their economies have grown and how their people are being able to uplift and empower themselves and in turn do the same for others.
The bottomline is, we need an ethical revolution and a more intelligent leadership!
