Big changes at DStv

It has been a year since French media giant assumed control of DStv owner MultiChoice. Here are the major developments at the South African pay-TV giant since then.

Aah, the perfect simple title to make this a "breaking DStv news" thread

Not mentioned - for those who missed it, the add on Indian package (no longer available on its own) lost one of its 9 channels recently, and will lose another 5 at month end.

Comments about it on the forum suggest that's considered too heavy a cut for it to survive, guess we'll see.
I did notice a possible name change somewhere for the doomed Indian news channel, Wion, so think that may continue in another form.

Another "Big Change" at a kuk company.... no change at all... just more kuk.... DO.NOT.WANT.... DO.NOT.CARE.....MULTICHOICE.SE.MA.SE.P03S.....TSEK

The sale of Discovery to Paramount was approved 2 days ago. Now...

Skydance combining HBO Max, Paramount+, and Discovery+ into a single service: Paramount Skydance has confirmed that it will merge HBO Max, Paramount+, and Discovery+ into a single streaming service. Both HBO and Paramount are former DStv content partners. It said the move should reduce fragmentation and simplify the user experience. [Ars Technica]

So how much of it will now continue to be available on DStv (and how much of it will be woke)?

(Popular opinion was that if Netflix had've got it, it would have ruined the industry further.)

It only took Canal Plus a year to completely turn the company around while Mawela and his cronies spent more than a decade shedding most of the Premium subscribers, increasing prices, losing channel after channel, introducing nothing new and rewarding themselves with insane bonuses.

Please sell Eskom to a European energy company.

Subscriber numbers aren't published so you can't accurately judge that

increasing prices

Correct

losing channel after channel

Since Canal+ took over they have closed down 20+ channels.

It only took Canal Plus a year to completely turn the company around...

Not even close, but agree they've done a lot more. Maybe even enough for the short period.

Something we seem to have missed:
(May have been casually mentioned, not sure)

"each time you qualify" ?

Sounds like this will happen periodically then...

We've written about this one. Let me double-check it's published.

Thinus spotted it first:

Bad news for DStv customers in South Africa

DStv recently overhauled its packages and has now announced temporary and permanent changes to its DStv Rewards loyalty programme.

Correct

Since Canal+ took over they have closed down 20+ channels.

No one cared about the channels they closed.

[SlowInternet]

Is Frikkie still t Dstv?

[Crowley]

No one cared about the channels they closed.

The same as nobody cared when DSTV was still in charge.

[Brian_G]

Is Frikkie still t Dstv?

Nope, he moved on.

[EmmanuelGoldstein]

Is Frikkie still t Dstv?

Nope, his ship sailed on the low seas

*Warning - rumour incoming... *

There's a massive amount of unprecedented adjustment activity going on behind the satellite scenes. It's kept encoded of course so not easy to read between the lines, but here's my take on it;

• A few more existing channels may possibly become available to smaller packages.
• Another new package early not impossible.
• SuperSport's MotorSport seems to be one important focus....
