And one of the main reasons we ever even got good tv here at all is the security - MC have to guarantee certain levels of anti-piracy effort, some US studios wouldn't even have given them the time of day otherwise.


Despite that complexity, they're clearly able to do better - a couple of years ago they showed Forumites here a test concept that included smaller sport package options. So they can fall back on that somewhat.
(Not possible to get rugby AND cricket cheaply though.)

Thanks for this. It gives some insight into the behind the scenes corporate machinations. It also explains why DSTV was punting Frikkies' shenanigans hunting pirates.

Yep, or so it's claimed..

A bit like Netflix I imagine - you're only supposed to watch SA approved content with them, but everyone here switches to the US lists instead, and are "allowed" to.

Netflix is just a parallel of sorts.

Only IPTV service I ever saw was found accidentally, definitely illegal as it had Supersport channels on it, lol. Threw it out

I find it odd, that you can offer customer smaller packages of certain channels, but can't offer customers packages based off their needs. Doesn't make sense. Surely at some point, somebody will finally figure out what might actually help turn this company around.

If one thinks about all the streaming services out there, + YouTube, there is already plenty to cover in terms of Movies, Series etc However, the one area that still fuels many, is that of sport..
 
Buzzwords and gobbledygook. Someone recently did an MBA and are now copying sentences out their text books and power point presentations and presenting to the shareholders. Vaporware is all it is. Good luck canal+ you gonna need it.

Which is the most expensive component of the package, most of the entertainment stuff is just the fluff added.
The sport is the big cost

Sure, sport is a major draw card. But convenience of one location as well, although that's more an older generation thing and DStv's movies & series need much work now.

Didn't used to be. When the series & movies were very competitive just a few short years ago, they cost a ton.

Although relative to the large transactional amounts with a platform like this one, this should give some idea - even about a dozen years ago a single blockbuster movie was costing them a bar (R1M) for its platform lifetime.

Sport has been expensive for a long time. The entertainment is the fluff now
