Canal+ is planning several changes at DStv

Which is the most expensive component of the package, most of the entertainment stuff is just the fluff added.
The sport is the big cost

This is what the "GIVE US A SPORT ONLY PACKAGE!!!111" crowd don't seem to understand.

I don't know of anywhere else in the world where a single broadcaster/package has the breadth of live sport coverage like SS.
That's what I'm most concerned about losing in the C+ changes.

The full bouquet model has subsidised the very expensive Supersport coverage, both for local production and licensed international sport content.

As soon as sport-only and other-entertainment-only become an option, sport watchers will probably be paying more for sport because, to illustrate with one narrow example, tannies who pay full subscription fees to watch BBC gameshows, cooking contests and old movies then won't be contributing to the Man United vs Liverpool games licensing costs, nor the Springboks vs NZ production costs, etc.

Yup, they would be the ones who cry when the sports only package is 2/3s of the costs anyway, while the entertainment package comes in a lot lower. They tend to not realise that it's literally the entertainment that is just the add on for the most expensive part.

As it stands now, its the cheapest in the world.

I wouldn't worry, it's their bread and butter here at this stage and they're far from incompetent (unlike previous management).

If Canal+ buys the rights to broadcast a sport, is that for all their regions or...?
