Big changes coming to Gautrain

The Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) is in negotiations with several UK companies to acquire additional train cabs or "rolling stock" to expand its Gautrain service.

The agency aims to acquire between 18 and 35 coaches for the Gautrain, which it will use to meet demand during peak travel times on popular routes.

When you coming to South of Jhb - Oakdene, Rosettenville, Linmeyer, Robertsham, Bassonia, Glenvista, Alberton?
The current stop is "Park" and nothing further South.

This is low tech, why we not building these in ZA?

The PRASA "too tall" Spanish locomotives and the TRANSNET Chinese "Gupta" locomotives should have been built in ZA.
These are low tech devices - ZA has (had) the capability to build this.

So I was reading another article about them wanting to use country tax funds & municipal taxes (vehicle, road etc) to fund it.

Watch this space as I reckon if the current revenue protection/guarantee is extended some big managers there are gonna be upgrading their cars and houses on the coast. (It was a dumb deal signed by Gauteng Province).

Lastly I think a major reorganization of carriage seating and standing needs to be done along with a massive price reduction as a result of it not being premium for this to be sustainable without gov backing/funding but I don’t see them doing it.. it’s nice having income guarantees.

Realty is that Uber is more affordable for airport leg and everyone I know that use to take it now orders an Uber..

Country wide tax ring-fenced for Gauteng benefit. Starting to become even more like a banana republic. This project should be paid for by Gauteng Municipality. The MyCiti project was funded by local government as was the BRT project. There is no reason why my taxes should pay for something that will never benefit me or the majority of South Africans whether directly or indirectly.

Will men in their underwear now be allowed on?
I think you're already allowed on in your undies, you just have to be wearing something on top of them...

I've been using Gautrain to work everyday for the past six months, give it a try if it is possible for you and you'll see why I won't go back to driving to work. What helps is that we have a work shuttle that picks us up at the station and drops us there again after work

Would love to use Gautrain - the closest station is Park - 9.5km away and does not go to Randburg.

They have to ask Treasury for permission, because they will need another R100 Million of taxpayer money to keep it going, added to the current R100 Million subsidy...........................................

Can't wait for Tshwane East station. Just wondering how the connection to Centurion will work...doesn't seem to connect to the Centurion station

I think you are off by a factor of 50 or more.

Lol. Do you honestly think that the western cape could survive without the tax revenue collected from gauteng?

Its all convenient and nice, but i doubt that gautrain is actually a profitable business. I ride the train daily during peak times and majority of the time there are seats available and few people standing in the passage by the door. And thats peak, offpeak hardly anyone uses it however similar cost is incurred, apart from the shorter train used.

Wonder where it'll be...

If no direct connection to Centurion you might have to go via Hatfield

You are probably going to have to switch trains at the new Samrand station from South to North line to go to Centurion.

The two/three biggest stations would probably Samrand and Marlboro/Sandton where all the switching is going to happen so hopefully they plan that properly.
