Hi,

Looking for a big data bundle for my house, which appears to be outside of the Fixed LTE coverage areas for Telkom and MTN.

Would the deals on this page be my only option? I'm looking at the 120GB (70 + 50) for R399 pm.

The house is located here.

Thanks.

This isn't that far actually.

I'm 10km from the nearest FLTE tower and mine works fine.

Thanks @eagle2k, am most certainly going to wait for Black Friday, am just prepping myself as to where I am able to look for the deals.

Are you suggesting that even though I am not in the official coverage area, I should be able to get a MTN FLTE?

Although, comparing the pricing at the R399 price point, Vodacom does appear better value with the 70 + 50 split, rather than the 60 + 60 split of MTN (with MTN I would need to use their router as mine is not compatible).

Vodacom also has the added benefit of being able to be used anywhere, not that I plan on using it anywhere other than at the house.

Let's start off with Vodacom

If you have a registered business you can get Vodacom Business LTE which is also not fixed to one location, they do however send you a router to use and no other router will work. It's also a 24 month contract. But it's the cheapest by far: 150GB anytime data @ R549

Anyway now let's say you don't have a business and you don't have a compatible FLTE router. Then you have a problem, because before taking out a test package with Afrihost or Axxess or Supersonic they have a clawback fee if you take it with a router.

With sim only you can take it out, test it, and cancel it if it doesn't work.

So maybe you should get a B525 from here on carb. Then you won't be bound to any clawback fee. Or just borrow your friends' router.

All being said keep in mind

Vodacom Business LTE has 3G as failover.

MTN FLTE does not and will only work on 4G

Regarding Black Friday
I won't get my hopes up with MTN, as far as I know today, they will only be offering custom black friday deals to upgrading clients. Meaning if you took out Black Friday contracts in 2017 you will be getting a sweet deal for upgrade.
No news on new clients so far.

Vodacom will he having a promotion but no details was mentioned.

One thing I know for sure is they are extending their business LTE promotion up until end of March 2020

P.S. I'm not an agent for any company and I do not get any commission whatsoever.

Oh yes and I am most definitely saying that you could get FLTE coverage even if you are outside the coverage zone.

With that being said, I like to keep my net month to month. And FLTE through Afrihost is the way to go.

Just rather get your own router then

So I'm just confirming this

I now have 7 sites running on Afrihost Fixed LTE with no fixed LTE coverage.

According to coverage maps there's only 4G with no fixed LTE nearby.

Although the speeds are not as great as Fixed LTE but its still good.

So just use an address within fixed lte coverage to get past the initial process of signing up for FLTE. Then just courier it to your real address.

Anyway. Good luck all ISP's not disclosing this. We know you want to keep your good name for top speeds.
But we, the consumer wants cheaper data

P.s

Worst case scenario if it doesn't work you can cancel your month to month package. Just choose sim only and get or borrow an approved router from someone.

Hi. Is this still the case now for Afrihost Fixed LTE on the MTN network? I have a rural site I want to get on MTN Fixed LTE. The site is outside of the Fixed LTE coverage area, but there is LTE coverage at the site. The site is about 2.9km from the MTN tower.

I use Afrihost FLTE on MTN outside of their official coverage area, and it works really well, I get 80 down, and 40 up. I did install an OMNI directional antenna though.

Update: The installation was completed and the modem is connecting without any external antenna. Getting about 80/50mbps.
