Big increases for MTN contract customers

CellC did something like this many years ago.
I have been on prepaid eversince then.

It's a contract and it does not protect the customer. Some people still think a contract means the price is locked. I was under that impression when I still did the contract thing.

It's so difficult to cancel an MTN contact. I had a SIM-only one that I tried for over a month to get cancelled. Retentions never respond to emails, the call centre can't help you. You have to be relentless.

The time it took meant they got another month's fee out of me. I just hope they have actually cancelled it this time!

It's so terrible how you can sign up quickly, but cancelling is impossible without bugging then via phone, email and social media.
Had the same problem 2 months ago , trying to cancel the 1TB deal

Eventually ended up e mailing the Jacky woman , one of her 100 PA's assisted me , with a reference number .

Their cancelation fees are ridiculous , I had 8 moths left on the R1059 1TB deal , charged me R3 300 to cancel

Years ago I left MTN angry and disappointed (my statements didn't balance from one month to the next and they insistent I was an idiot for expecting an opening balance to be equal to the last closing balance ) . But I almost reconsidered them for my next contract renewal (seeing that service from Cell C has pretty much imploded) but this just convinced me to stay far - far away.

Happy days...not like we don't have a massive amount of other increases coming our way anyways.

Network wise, MTN are superior and generally things are fast and works well.
But its the customer/service element that brings it down.

And on top of this, MTN quietly removed their free early upgrade benefit, now when upgrading at 20 months, you have to pay a hefty fee...

Instead of cancelling your m2m contact, you should rather request to convert to pay-as-go. Works faster then can do as you like.

Oh, I tried several times to do this. They could not do it. They kept transferring me to a number that doesn't exist.

I've mentioned this before in threads & posts to do with MTN - if one lives near enough to one of their Regional head offices, then it's probably best to try and achieve what you're after through them.

Easily cancelled an MTN contract over 10 years ago this way, and got a confirmation letter of cancellation at the same time, so never had any probs. with it since.

I'd never rely on dealing with a call centre with these networks & trusting the agent I spoke to, did what they promised - I rather get things in writing when I can, face to face.

Hehe right as my contract expires
Mtn and customers don't work together very well.

So weird. I have 2 black friday specials and my bill is only ~2.5% higher.

Geez, expect this kind of thing from vodacon, not mtn.

I must be ten years on prepaid, rather pay double than be locked into this nonsense. A good enough phone only cost R3 to R6 k, so why lock yourself in, Standard Bank 1 Gig costs R89, the rest is Wi-Fi. Cell phone service has declined over the last 20 years. Service centers don't work for me. One needs to stick with the most simple solution. When companies get to big customers are treated like dirt.

Base price?!?
I suppose my boss pays me 10 million but I get a few digits less.

On which ones?
Combined statement increased by this amount.

The underlying packages are the MTN Made for Me XS packages, one 24 months and one 36 months. The 36 month one increased from R173.04 to R178.26 and the 24 month one from R225.22 to R230.43 (excl VAT). VAT increased like ~R2. Since they are Black Friday specials they come with a ton of data (50GB) which are thus not impacted by this.

I guess I'm lucky in that the base contract price might be quite cheap?

Well that’s the point, the “base cost” is irrelevant, it’s just RRP marketing bs. There’s no ways the “base cost” on those wasn’t significantly higher than what you are paying, in fact just the “base cost” on 50gb is probably more than the current value of your contract. You just got lucky, there’s no rhyme or reason to these increases.
