Big loss for the SABC

Not making a moerse profit I can understand (no SOE should be making a profit) but to make a loss? HOW? How is it possible?

Big loss for the SABC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) tabled its 2018/19 annual report in Parliament which revealed a net loss of R482.4 million.

The main contributors to this net loss, the SABC said, were losses incurred on sporting events and interest incurred as a result of the liquidity constraints.
I guess a couple of comrades are round 400 mil richer this Christmas.

Shouldn't sporting events coverage be profitable, with ads and such? Or is it sports few watch, so ads cannot be expensive enough to be profitable?
As I understand it if that Cloudy fool and the corrupt ones at another pay channel did not sink the digital and encrypted move, they could have resold the rugby WC on a pay per view basis and at the same time enabled more fans to see the Boks play ( and lose) and made quite a bit. South Africa, where greed and incompetence meet.

We've known about this for months now. Why is it coming up again ?

That's chump change compared to Eskom. Will probably be seen as a success in that light...
