Big problem with my new desktop, please help.

My new pc build is giving me problems when it's on for a while or when a game is played. I suspect the psu is weak but i'm not sure. . . .

Hi Aofil

I agree with the other replies you getting that it is your power supply that is too weak , and the reason for it is that the although your power supply says 400w I can tell you that it is actually 200w or 250w with a 400w sticker , I knows for a fact this happens as we had the same issue many years ago when one of suppliers conned us by doing just that as the price difference is about USD$10.

you will notice on our pricelist or website that our cases come with a 300w or 350w and these are genuine 300w or 350w and they will run your configuration just fine. Judging from your configuration I have a strong feeling that I know where your case came from, and that this company is notorious for bringing cases with a 200w psu with a 400w sticker –I would go back to them and insist they give you a real 400w psu for which you paid as reflected on your invoice.

Thats definitely high....

You sure about that? I see the VAN-600AS listed for R950+ everywhere.

Another suggestion to solve the power supply issue: if you case can take it have a look into running a 2nd PSU and run the graphics card off it. It'll save immediately cash outlay.

It might also be best for power hungry rigs to run a PSU with a single 12V rail and not these multiple rails. When one rail can't provide enough current, the whole thing shuts down.

It would be nice if you guys started stocking real psu's as well, as opposed to peak rated ones:)

lol huntkey ftl :D

im sure its the psu thats giving u trouble.

im running a 4890, using the vantec ion2+ 520W, works great.

also they quite cheap, i know prophecy has them in stock.

Lol! Nice one:D

Btw Aofil, how much do you want to spend on a new PSU?

Well if that Vantec is around R600 im sure i can make a plan if it will benefit my pc and is really as good as i'm hearing... i wouldn't like to spend too much more than that though..if possible.

But how can i e sure of this, or how can i prove it?

Got an 8800GT 1Gb here and using a Gigabyte Odin GT 800W, wouldn't want to go any lower tbh cause as always with pc's, you'll upgrade parts etc.

Total overkill for any single card setup.

And parts generally become more energy efficient over time.
