Cheapest 4K big-screen TVs in South Africa — including several options under R10,000

Higher-resolution TVs have increased in popularity in South Africa, and, as a result, the prices of 4K TVs have fallen considerably, including for models 65 inches and larger.

When LG launched its first 4K TV in 2012, it had an 84-inch panel and cost $20,000 (R164,230). However, South Africans can now grab a big-screen 4K TV from a well-known brand for as little as R8,999.

this is really not a good article Jan. I'd definitely not call "Skyworth" well known. Skyworth and all the Chinese **** in the article are all crap. Maybe not TCL, they are pretty decent.

All Chinese junk and no real TV’s.
I think they’re going for value here.

I’m sure they’ll be another article with high end TVs like the Samsung & Sony OLED

Samsung is currently running a trade-in special, where you can trade-in your Chinese TV for a Samsung OLED one.

There are Samsung TV's in this list

I'm actually in the market but these all look like budget options. I'd rather spend a little more and keep it for a while. For reference I'm still running a 10+ year old non-smart Bravia. What would be a similar choice today? Sony still the king of TVs? Can one get a non-smart TV still?

You can get a non-smart TV, but it's not going to be from the likes of Sony, Samsung or LG

My ancient 40" LCD Sony Bravia started doing weird **** the other day, it starts doing its own thing changing channels, going into demo mode all by itself. Picture still great though. I'm very sad.

Oh sweet summer child...

I suspected that this might be the case. I read somewhere that Samsung has ads on their bloatware, is this peculiar to them or is it a widespread practice?

OK. I didn't mean to start an airfryer debate. ;)
Maybe you can tell me who you feel makes the best TVs?

Sony still the king of TVs?
They definitely have a decent model

“The Sony A95L OLED is the best OLED TV we've tested in 2023 and is probably the best TV available at the moment, bar none. It's incredible as a home theater TV due to its support of the popular Dolby Vision HDR video format, so you'll enjoy the most advanced HDR experience possible from almost any source. Sony's processing is at its absolute best here, and the TV does a fantastic job of following the content creator's intent, as the brightness and colors of HDR content look how they're supposed to. It also offers excellent audio format support, including DTS:X passthrough over eARC, so you can simplify your connection to your audio-video receiver by running everything through your TV without sacrificing audio quality.”

Yea this looks amazing! What I have learned is that finding Sony TVs ins SA is very difficult. I'm not finding them in the usual places (Game/Makro, etc.)
