Takealot's incredible year

Takealot had an incredible year. It increased revenues by 65% to R8.7 billion, grew the company to 4,000 employees, supports 15,000 drivers, and has 4,500 sellers on its marketplace.

Speaking to The Money Show, outgoing CEO Kim Reid said 2020 started off poorly — with a ban on most ecommerce activities when the first Covid-19 lockdown regulations were implemented.

Pros:
Good service, excellent guarantees, amazing selection of goods
The local collection service works well
Delivery times generally good

Cons:
Many items are bottom of the range yet are disguised by clever marketing and ambiguous descriptions
Some electronic items are well beyond their sell-by date
Website search not too good and seems to get flustered

Which other country uses the word "heck" as much as we do?

"Takealot’s growth over the last decade illustrates the potential ecommerce holds in the South African economy."

I think what it mostly demonstrates is a middle and upper-class version of society that's completely and utterly captured and isolated in a country where we're not only held to draconian pandemic laws, but increasingly cocooned at home to try and dodge the reality of a failed state that's getting worse by the day.

Takealot used to be one of the last places on my list to buy from, but being lucky enough to still have a job and the increase in my disposable income due to overworking myself into a sad heap I really don't care about saving the odd cent here and there, it's all about convenience and being able to find what you need while you still can. Well done to them though, they're really good at this, never had an issue with a Takealot order.

If I could order turret guns and a moat off Takealot I probably would at this point.

Last time I checked Amazon wasn't available in SA.
I honestly did not know this, do I now returned all the stuff I bought over the years. Pre-Covid, I received sometimes the products before Takealot.
Example I ordered a Samsung J5 in 2016 on Takealot, it did not deliver for two weeks. I cancelled and ordered from Amazon the J7 prime, which was R2000 cheaper, it came within a week. After that I bought regularly from Amazon, expanded to Aliexpress.
