'Bigger = better'

HAHAHAAH!

They now have a big screen and big keyboard with an embedded numeric keypad (great for anyone using the numeric keys a lot like accountants, book keepers etc.), and all the “sexiness’ of a notebook.

Only an accountant would describe a notebook in terms of "sexiness"

:D:D

I love my Thinkpad T61, it gives me serious wood, it's sexy!

But then again, I'm a geek :p :D

Nothing wrong with a 15.4' incher either... (hopefully) :)

17" is of coarse better if you don't mind the extra weight, nothing wrong with the 15" either, anyone know how the battery time is on the 17"?

My last two laptops have both been 17" and boy would I miss it.

Nah, I prefer a smaller 15.4" screen with a high resolution (at least 1680x1050). I see way too many 17" screens with either less or exactly the same resolution.

As my daddy used to say, its not the size that matters, but how you use it... :)

I have a 17" Acer 2.16GHz Core2Duo, 2Gb RAM with built-in webcam and I'm very happy with it. The full keyboard makes a big difference to me.
Yes, the only downside is it's battery life. With WiFi enabled I can only get around 1 hour on the batteries. A friend with a 15,4" Toshiba gets more than 2 hours on batteries but it takes a few minutes to boot up. :)

Hey, it's called a 'nipple' and I will play with it all day if I want to! :D

BWHAHAHAAHHAAAHHAAH! Must be that little red mouse button in the middle of the keyboard you keep playing with

i think they trying to replace desktop with laptops.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_replacement

Very astute nabs, the new range of larger laptops (17" and up) are defined as Desktop Replacement laptops, especially the ones with nice gfx cards. Seen some insanely large laptop screens, kinda defeats the purpose, my 17" is already a bit of a backbreaker. Must say I am enjoying my 17" though, the numeric keyboard is pure bliss. Battery life is fine(2 hours with wifi, watching dvd), and it runs cool. No scorch marks from working with it on your lap

......damn this is a dangerous post... dangerous thread for that matter :D

they should make a portable desktop-part-compatible chassis. PERIOD.
take a latop chassis. give it more height.
plug in your normal cd-rom, normal ram, + make the chassis have a removable cover that exposes a normal keyboard. (drop the num pad)
if you want a battery get a removable one.
also have a 17" LCD built into the chassis.
Saw it once in a PC mag. bloody brilliant.
I can't use my HP laptop because the CD-Rom is faulty. R3500 to fix it!
thats a new desktop.
Im willing to sacrifice the luxury of just flipping open the screen and work for affordable parts.
