Biggest threat to game developers...

That holds some truth. When I used to pirate my games I would not even look at the price of a release. Would hop straight on the net and look for a copy.
Stopped pirating around 10 years ago. Now it's the opposite. I just look for the best price.

Saw torrent downloads on my firewall from my son's computer a few months ago. Found out it was a game he wanted. Have since blocked torrents on my network and gave him a lecture (he is only 9).

Props to you.

And those people do not represent a lost sale for the development house. They will never buy.

Cheaper launch price will = more sales = more revenue quicker

But then they lose the extra revenue from the initial people that would pay more.

If they would make more money doing it your way, they already would.

If they had the perfect business model then they wouldn't have to regularly threaten consumers with legal action.

If people weren't leeches they wouldn't have to either.

No, but they'd probably feel justified to raise prices.

The old do as I say and not as I do spiel :p

Game development costs are way too high for there to be much point in dropping prices much. If they were to drop the game prices by half do you really think game sales would double? Smarter minds then ours try and work out the best price point for a new product and I unfortunately think they've got it about right.

No idea until you try. Speaking for myself, I'd say yes, I'd buy new titles regularly.

Ya. Well it did take me 32 years to learn the right way :D

If you had never pirated, do you think you'd still be a gamer today?

Above question is not a troll, I'm genuinely interested.

I'm not sure that I would be a gamer today if I hadn't pirated in the years when I couldn't afford to buy :o

Same here.
I know many people who won't spend a grand on two games out of principle and a lot of parents who think the same and refuse to have their kids grow up without proper perception of value.

It does depend though.

I usually work on potential hours of play and compare that to a movie cost.

So if the game is going to played to death, yes, it's worth paying more for (cost of enjoyment per hour decreases) but if it's a 'run through once and gather dust' then no.

Or buy Diablo 3 @ full price on release like me and be disappointed about how a fail it was :(
