Biggest threat to game developers...

So your logic says that they're making less money to start with and to make more money they should start lower down? Totally agree. Many more people will purchase a game new rather than pirate it or purchase it used, given the right price IMO.

And right there you miss my point again. For the first two weeks of release, a $60 price point is completely fine. How is it that many games manage to move hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, of copies at the $60 price point during the release period?

Lots of people are more than willing to pay $60 for games at release. Later, when everyone who were willing to pay that price have already bought the game, the rest of the people will wait for an inevitable sale.

Yup, the logic fail is strong in this thread

Hundreds of thousands of people buy games at full price on release. The rest of us wait for sales. There is logic fail in this thread, but it's not coming from the people you think. By reducing the price of games at release, you're ensuring that both those who are willing to pay full price and those who wish to wait for sales are paying the lower price, thus affecting the profit margin by quite a bit.

I'm all for cheaper videogames, but your reasons for arguing for cheaper videogames are not solid.

Two weeks, my backside. Perhaps in some cases, certainly not in all.

IMHO the problem is with the licensing fees(in the case of consoles) and the price the distributors put on the games, not so much the developers.
If they(the distributors and license holders) would drop their cut it would drop prices making it more affordable.
As for me I would definitely buy more newer games if the prices was lowered instead I tend to look for older and second hand games, where I can get two great titles rather than 1 newer title for the same price.
*just my 2c here

It would be interesting to hear who makes what... And what distributors think of consumer options like steam.

They hate them. Have you ever wondered why digital games are the same price on launch as games bought in a shop. The shops actually told the publishes that if they make the digital versions cheaper they won't stock their games anymore.

I wonder what they think of the BT games types who sell second hand games... I'm sure they make up for it with new tho

They hate that too. That's why for a long while the games had online passes and why so many games have microtransactions and day one DLC.

That's how they try to make money off second hand games.
