Biggest websites in SA

Wish they would remove websites that weren't started in SA (e.g. MSN, Hotmail) and list only South African sites!

Hi Darkstreet

This is a tricky issue…difficult to start debating what constitutes a local/South African website. Many different variables may be taken into account, including where it is hosted, who owns it and the like.

This is therefore basically a list of OPA registered websites. Definitely not complete, but at least some guideline as to which sites in SA are the largest.

This may also help: http://www.alexa.com/topsites/countries/ZA

How many of those MSN hits is due to MSN being the default homepage on IE and people just don't change it.

Thanks, rpm, I understand where you are coming from.

yeah, we keep on having the same issues around stats. msn = default for ie, not all sites have nielsen (no google sites) etc.

+1

The MSN, Hotmail and Webmail statistics say a lot about the internet maturity of South Africans.

Happy to see MyBB on the list :D

News24.co.za used to be 2,878,260

... but I quit going there.

It's virtual death is imminent due to the lack of my presence.

Then the MyBB community can pull some weight. If we all decided to boycott a certain ISP etc it would be a heavy punch. So if we get organized we can dictate the market :)

Okay so I can add my name to your move to "imminence".

I get all my news from that posted in the forums :p

MSN is # 2, I never go there besides of when as you guys have said the browser I am using, IE 6, defaults to it, we better move people to Mozilla for a real stat since Google is not a site and its default on FF
