Any1 have this modem?

If so, could you please give me your experience with this modem:

How well its working, reliability etc?

Many thx!!

:)

Hi there,

I have used this modem for over a year now and it really works like dream. It's a very cost effective modem/router with Ethernet port that does what it's supposed to and very stable.

You won't go wrong there. I see you can now get it at Jump.co.za for R472

Yup, i saw that price.

Very impressive!!

I'm so glad to hear that the modem works fine.

My friend was concerned as Telkom doesn't list it as an approved modem. I almost started with the whole Telkom flame etc etc. but then I just said, wait, I will post on MyADSL and all your questions will be answered!!!

Thanx for replying Kale!!

:)

Kale,

Am just slightly worried about the initial config, once Telkom installs.

Is it easy to do? and what details do you need from the ISP etc?

The router has a user-friendly wizard setup screen that'll guide you through your initial setup.

You only need a username and password from your ISP - the rest of the settings are already set to South African standards.

The modem is ICASA licensed so you are buying a legal ADSL modem/router.

Glad I could help!

I also have one of them. Used it for two days then it broke. Still waiting for Billion to repair/replace. Must have been made on a friday.

hmmm, no you have come and burst my bubble RolandD!!

Hi Roland. I am from BILLION support. We are not aware of any outstanding or unswapped faulty units and I will appreciate if you could email me with some information on this. All faulties will pass through us for any major repairs or maintenance.

Please inform us where the unit was bought and when did you return it?
The failure rate on BILLION products including the 5100S is well below 1%.

Cool,

This is why I love this forum!!

BILLION Tech, could you maybe mail me your details or support number? I will propably be buying a Billion modem in the near future. If what you say is true, then I won't need your number, but just in case!!

Thanks!!
:)

The support number for BILLION products is 086 000 ADSL.

PS: You may want to wait for the new 5102S ADSL modem that will replace the 5100S by middle March. This modem will be ADSL 2/2+ compatible for possible future upgrade. The price will be the same

Cool, thx!!

I'll do some research...

My installation date for ADSL is 16th March

:)

BILLION Tech, please can you keep us updated on that new modem. Also, could you perhaps post a feature list and your preferred retail channel.

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't mean that Billion was at fault here, it is just that I havn't heard anything from the supplier where I bought it and returned it to. The problem is probably with them not Billion, trying to get hold of them now. Will keep you updated.

Update: "Supplier still working on it"

Apart from my specific problem I must say it is a great modem/router for the price, with lots of nice features, I was considering buying a second as a backup, will now wait for the new model though. Only negative comment is lack of surge protection, which I know some other modems have. So plan to fork out a few extra $ for that.

Most certainly greedyflyza. You can visit our BILLION SA website to view all the BILLION products.
You can view more info on the 5102S we spoke about here .

You can buy BILLION products currently online at www.jump.co.za or www.digitalplanet.co.za.

Our Where-to-Buy page will be up before the end of the week, which will include all other dealers and retailers.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you require more info.

billon_tech, great to have you on board here @ MyADSL.
The more industry participants in this forum the better for all :)

BTW, the Billion 5102S will be my next modem - mainly because of the great price/feature ratio, but also in part because Billion staff have shown commitment to their brand :)

Luckily (well...) I have to wait 3 weeks for my ADSL line. Hopefully this coincides with the new availability of that 5102S!!

Thanks for the info.

Hi Billion Tech

The 5102S looks great. Is it available yet? Both Jump and Digital Planet currently only have the 5100SM for sale (not even the 5100S)--I assume they're trying to get rid of old stock. Would they be able to supply the 5102S if we gave them a phone call? Or if you gave them a phone call? :D You also mentioned in a previous post that the 5102S would sell at the same price as the 5100S, any way you can ensure that your resellers honour this?

Also, the Where-to-Buy page is still not up. Any idea when we can expect that?

Thanks, looks like a great product.
Saber

BTW,

my friend got his Billion 5100S yesterday from Jump.

Went to their office(/home) to pick it up, no hassle

:)
