Savanna also introduced a alcohol free variant. Although it contains alcohol. There is a loophole in legislation around this.

As far as I know, you can claim your drink is "alcohol free" if it has < 0.05% alcohol in it.

Well there was a mindfluck!

i don't weigh myself..... well let me rephrase that, perhaps once every three years I might climb on a scale and know that my at my peak drinking weight.....I was 148,5 kg....... Don't lecture me, I am quite tall and quite active, swimming badminton....... just have a boep.....

Anyhow after today's braai I noticed that the English HO had a new scale and decided to test it out..... lo and behold, 142,1 kg...... and I ain't dieting, just stopped the binge drinking..... Oh! and this was with a full belly of braai meat....

Me liking this side effect.......

 Only drinking if it is a really special occasion and you may all send messages of support now......

Ridiculous

Especially for pregnant women who 'think' it is safe to drink

So an update from my end... and my journey with alcohol free drinks...
The Heineken 0's - i felt like sheet the next day. Not sure if it was a hangover cos of my 6mths since last alcoholic drink, but i truly felt lousy all day the next day.
The castle free's - i feel ok, and to me they taste the same as a normal one. Of course i am told they taste like cr@p, but i'm ok with them.
The duchess pink and blue and i think green all taste lousy, but i drank them as i had bought them and i wasn't going to toss them out. Will never buy them again!
Anyhoo...
Yesterday had peeps over who drink at the speed i do, and will get through 12 in a sitting, while we braai. i found i got through a heap of castle free's and duchess along with the occaisonal coke / fanta / tab.
At the end of the day. i had way more empties than he did lol.
It shows me, maybe its a good thing im not drinking normal beer, my flow control is still just as broken as it was when i was endulging. Just today i woke up feeling 100%, just a bit bloated... which is also something that i dislike, and never noticed it before.

0.03% is less alcohol than you get in sour-dough bread. Less than you ingest when you rinse your mouth with mouthwash. Corner-sold ginger beer. 0.03% is so low, it won't even pick up in your blood stream - at all. You liver metabolises it faster than you can drink it.

Apparently you need to consume roughly 20 of these non alcoholic drinks in an hour to fail a breathalyser. Someone is bound to see this as a challenge :)

The biggest issue with them is the assumption people make that there is Zero booze in them. This about the following

Recovering alcoholics
Religious people who cannot drink booze
Pregnant women
People on specific medication (no booze)
Pilots and operators of heavy machinery

20 of these would contain the same amount of alcohol as one 0.6% beer. You would need to consume 100 of these to consume the same amount of alcohol as one very light (3% ABV) beer. To clarify, Castle Lite is 4% ABV. So 130 of these to get the same alcohol as a Castle Lite. That's 5.4 cases, or 43 litres of beer. You cannot get drunk on it. You will puke your lungs out and probably burst long before that.

EDIT: Oh, and I get the issue, but that's why there are labels that needs to show how much is in there. Also, a pregnant/lactating woman can really have one or two 0.03% beers. It's so low, like I said, that there is absolutely no danger to the baby. In fact, the hops is actually good for milk production. :)

So I’m enjoying my few castle black 0% Beers. Had a coke in between. Maybe some water... Happily blending in :) then I get a “why are you throwing your no-alcohol goodie two shoes thing in our face”. This was at a braai for an extended family members birthday.
Sigh...
If I’m not acting like a tit drinking real beer or whatever quickly... now I’m minding my own business and I get this. Like wtf. That seriously pissed me off. Anyone had any wonderful experiences like this?

Oh a ton. I just go "I have to drive and I have a wife and baby to look after". Usually shuts them up.

Well the Booze Free journey might be coming to a dramatic end this Saturday, With the World Cup Final and more importantly I have my partners 70th Birthday Bash, Yep! The Old Man is 70 and we are buying him out and he is going home to the North. We are hosting a bit of a bash in our yard for about 100 people and the booze will be flowing. I see my mate, Dr.Doppies shall also be in attendance, so it might get eccentric.... ;)
