Awesome photo. I just wanna ask, what lens were using because even with my 70-300 lens, I just can't get close enough to them damn birds before spooking them.

I was lucky to catch this bird during other stuff I was doing but already at this point he was aware of my presence, and while trying to move to a different location it took off which made me bleak. This emotion was then compounded when i checked the replay only to find this damn blurry bush in the left ( Too much concentration was put on the bird ) :(

Acidrain , most shots with a Sigma 120-400 on a Canon 650D . If you post some info on the camera & lens combo you use there's some easy settings to get good images.

Mine was shot with a canon 1200D and Sigma 70-300 lens so seems I need to get a longer lens if I plan on staying well hidden.

On the 1200D that lens goes up to an effective 480mm . Try shooting at ISO 800 & f8 in AV mode - s/s should be around 1/800.
Another option is to look out for a good secondhand Canon EF 75-300 , AF is just a bit faster then the Sigma. Yet don't scoff at the Siggy , it's incredible value for money.
