BIS useless lately

I've been running a speed test every day, same time, and from the same location. Results are always the same. Ping times of over 2000ms and download speed of less than 10KB/s. And that's on 3G. I don't use my phone to download anything but work documentation that I use to give presentations etc from my Playbook, but I seriously can't go on like this. If I need info during a meeting, I need it asap, not wait 5 minutes for a simple web page to load. Unfortunately, like a lot of ppl here are stating, VC and/or RIM just don't really seem to care at all. I agree with marine1, MTN flies, and if it wasn't for their billing department I would never have left. But now that I know the terrible service I can expect with VC, I'd much rather fight with billing and have the service I pay for.
 
I echoe what marine1 said - it's not BlackBerry...it's Vodacom. The problem is, as always, oversunscription to BIS without a reciprocal increase in infrastructure. It's like they own a highway and sell cars (sports cars - the analogy is cliched but best). They're selling cars like hot cakes and it's causing a traffic jam like the one you're stuck in from work to home - but they're not putting in capex to add more lanes or construct another highway/ alternate route.

Your problem isn't your car, your problem is the owner of the highway (Vodacom BIS). It's not that you're car can't drive fast, it's because there are too many other cars that there is no room to vroom and zoom. Try using your BlackBerry using normal 3G NOT on BIS...it goes lightning quick by comparison no matter the time of day...because it's a MUCH larger highway with more space given the volume of cars.
 
The 3G BB phones perform worse that other phones on EDGE - just downloading a 3MB app from Appworld takes like 5-10 minutes. On normal phones 3MB goes in under a minute.

Edit: On Vodacom, that is.

I got a new BB contract with MTN because I was so unhappy with Vodacom. MTN worked great last year up until about Dec 1. From there everything has been a little wonky. I can barely browse during the day, let alone the night. The strange thing is when my 3g doesn't work on my BB it works 100% off my MTN data card. It is clear that BB speeds are throttled. Not impressed MTN&BB :twisted:

+1 to the advice to just get a normal phone with a data package.
 
I've always said I'll film my BB experience - but the video is usually 4 minutes+ to load a page and 40MB ...
 
Is the phone on the left quicker or slower than your BIS?

With full 3G signal in just about any area, I time out 7 out of 10 times. However when it does work, it takes around 2 minutes to load each page at MyBB ... so to go from the main forum page, into 'off topic' and into 'motoring' can easily take 6+ minutes before I've read a single post

Is that maybe an average ?

EDIT : Found a video already. Mine takes far longer, but the video is too large to email from a BB or upload

Wow, for the first time in months the service is usable for me this morning. 50KBps download speed after a speed test. And not a single timeout yet this morning browsing all the usual news/events sites.
 
Well my BIS has become more and more hampered with timeouts since beginning December 2011. What is disgusting that there is no communication from any service provider or apparent intention to fix this. STill we pay for an add-on service.

Oh yes, with MTN.

That profit margin is our BIS funds...
