BitCo Consumer Review

Hi BitCo,
What is the chances of me watching Netflix using your 5MB uncapped account when I use unblock-us.com DNS?
Also can I use the Unblock-us DNS on the free wifi router that you supply me with ?
At the moment I use 4MB adsl with a Linksys X3500 router, can I still use my Linksys router wth the router that Bitco supply me with?

It's back to normal today

Not sure what happened

HI Viashen,

During the time you encountered a problem there was an extremely large storm cell over Kempton park & parts of JHB

The storm was large enough to ground many flights at ORT international airport

This affected some of our links in the area but passed quite quickly

Apologies for any inconvenience caused

Mike

Hi Colin,

Netflix would work well on the 5Mbps Package

We would recommend using Unotelly & adding the custom DNS directly to the device you would like to use when streaming

BitCo Supply you a Linksys E900 Router included with our service, it is not recommended to add the DNS to the router but rather the device so the DNS only affects the internet routing from that specific device

Link is down

HI FluKe,

We monitor all the links on our network and from a quick look i don't see anything down this morning.

Can you please log a support request with [email protected] for a technician to investigate

If you don't come right immediately please send us a PM so we can escalate internally

Netflix Streams well on the 5MB package, bare in mind that if you stream HD then you will only be able to do so for plus minus 4 hours. If you stream SD then you will be fine.

Works best with unotelly

Hulu plus buffers every now and again but not sure if it's just me so can't comment too much on that

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info.
I however have signed a 1 year agreement with Unblock-US, however I may sign with unotelly as well.
the device I use is a netgear neotv max, I am not sure if it will allow me to set the DNS on the device or not, watch this space though...

As far as the Linksys E900 supplied router, I am guessing it will be possible to just daisy chain it from itself and into my other Linksys X3500 Router and set the X3500 to just act as a router?

Thanks for the advice and Info Viashen.
I have spoken with the lady at Bitco today about sending techs out to investigate the possible LOS

Ok, so I checked out my netgear and the dns settings can be changed manually so all is good, Will sign up with Uno telly once Bitco Techs have been to check for LOS.

Thanx a mill guys.

Out of interest sake, is there anyone else on here that uses Bitco to play FPS type games online without any packet loss? (Packet loss causes rubber banding, so you'll notice it pretty quickly) ... It would appear that Bitco is not ideal for this type of gaming...

From what I could gather after some research, fps games use a higher tick rate(the amount of times per second the server updates the client) and WISP type ISP's just can't keep up due to interference in the signal that's pretty much unavoidable seeing that the means of transport is, well, the atmosphere...

I have to praise Bitco on their part, they have really tried a lot to sort out this issue, but no solutions have been found. I have an appointment with their Technical Director on Friday where' he's going to monitor my link while I play, to analyze the game data being sent to and from the client/server, I really do appreciate the effort, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

After reading more into this type of technology, and after experiencing the problems it causes with gaming first hand (without trying to sound like a douche) I really don't think Bitco should advertise their packages for gaming... The connection is perfect for things like browsing, game downloads, streaming etc. But for gaming in my experience its really awful:(

May I take this opportunity to thank BitCo for a very neat installation and high quality equipment.
I like the Tomato OS on the Lyksys E900 router supplied.
The quality of the "line" is very good with a ping of 6 to 15ms to google.com
We had no latency issues with online gaming so far.
BitCo, Please keep up the good work!
