BitCo Consumer Review

Garth, does BitCo have fibre going up Olive Road in Sharonlea (I know your head office is at the bottom of Olive Road, I just wondered if you had coverage in the immediate area?)

Hi Beerygaz,

Yep Fibre available on this road, we have a Fibre and Wireless Connection at our head office

Unfortunately only Business Fibre is available as we don't have an FTTH offering in this area

Wireless is possible but lots of trees around here.

I play Destiny on Xbox 360. Played Saturday, the whole day, without any lag.
I'm connected to the upgraded Helderkruin Highsite, if it makes any difference.
We just had a lekker Storm outside with lots of lightning and my PingTrace shows that my uplink was totally unaffected. :)

I have played both CoD and battlefield Series on PSN with no issues on a 5MB link. I do believe if you experiencing issues with a specific game you can always call them and they can help out with prioritizing the port the game is running on.

I play Quake Live online which is arguably the most sensitive FPS in terms of raw latency and tick rate and I have 0 issues.

No rubberbanding, lagging or spiking. The only issue I have is when my link goes down or like last night goes bonkers with packet loss (I think the storm was causing that though), so I have to disagree with your comment about gaming.

Perhaps the area you stay in has lots of interference but that's not necessarily BitCo's fault.

So many happy customers, probably the reason my complaints get treated with no urgency, DAMN you guys:p

Just take note, the first couple of weeks my gaming experience was flawless, I was so happy, but it started going downhill very fast, fast forward almost a year and I'm still sitting with the same complaint(or make that +- 50 complaints), what surprises me is that Bitco has not sent someone out to see if it might not be hardware related.

Every time I log an issue it follows the same path

1.) I complain I'm getting packet loss
2.) They ask me in what game
3.) I say in CSGO
4.) They first insinuate I'm brain dead and ask me if I'm sure I wasn't downloading while trying to game.
5.) After we've established I'm not a complete moron. They then speculate its got something to do with ports or priorities.
6.) I get informed changes have been made and the issue should be sorted.
7.) My ticket gets closed
8.) But **** all was fixed, I still sit with packet loss.
9.) So I go back to step 1, rinse and repeat

Okay well more or less this, there were two separate occasions Garth and Mike sat with me via Skype, but no solutions came of it, other than that, the above is pretty much my weekly patern with Bitco... Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result aint going to work...

Any sane person would by now start looking to identify the problem somewhere else, but the feeling I get from Bitco is that they're just not bothered, I'm one of the minority that's not happy with their service, and the forums are full of good things about them, so why be bothered.

Do yourself a favor: call the support team when you are home. It will be easier to see whats causing the issue that way. That's was i always do, and it has proved to be more effective than an email

Mike, I know about the trees, I cut one down to try and get access, but still didn't qualify. I love your service ethic and offering, and would love to give you my money. I'm just looking to find a way to do it. PM me with ideas?

I play games in the evenings, that's when I experience problems

Hi Guys

We have added a new, larger international route to Europe and round trip latency to London is now ~160ms. This should improve gaming somewhat.

Garth

Im thinking the improved latency's on WoW servers (not that they were high to begin with) has got something to do with this right?

I've never ever in my life seen pings this low from SA to blizzard servers tbh

Hi Wikkels88,

Nothing changed on WOW servers side, we just added some new undersea capacity which gives us a very short route to WOW servers & Europe in general :)

Good Day Gents

Right I have been through all the 135 pages of posts and comments, this one caught my attention and I would like for the Bitco rep to elaborate on this as I have just placed my service order and I'm getting bloody nervous when i see comments like this.
(10mb/s service going to be used for gaming, Xbox One)

"Out of interest sake, is there anyone else on here that uses Bitco to play FPS type games online without any packet loss? (Packet loss causes rubber banding, so you'll notice it pretty quickly) ... It would appear that Bitco is not ideal for this type of gaming...

From what I could gather after some research, fps games use a higher tick rate(the amount of times per second the server updates the client) and WISP type ISP's just can't keep up due to interference in the signal that's pretty much unavoidable seeing that the means of transport is, well, the atmosphere...

I have to praise Bitco on their part, they have really tried a lot to sort out this issue, but no solutions have been found. I have an appointment with their Technical Director on Friday where' he's going to monitor my link while I play, to analyze the game data being sent to and from the client/server, I really do appreciate the effort, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

After reading more into this type of technology, and after experiencing the problems it causes with gaming first hand (without trying to sound like a douche) I really don't think Bitco should advertise their packages for gaming... The connection is perfect for things like browsing, game downloads, streaming etc. But for gaming in my experience its really awful"

.......am i making a huge mistake??

Hi Disiza,

Wow so reading 135 pages, your eyes have to be burning :)

So as you would have read in many of the posts above we have 100's of home broadband customers on our network & a very large amount of them play online gaming

Our network has been gaming optimized & we regularly make changes to prioritize the new games as they come out.

We have many happy customers on our network playing games who experience very low latency and great throughput

Unfortunately there is always someone who experiences a technical difficulty, most of the time is resolved by logging a support ticket with [email protected]

We are always committed to resolving each and every issue found on our network and i am sure some other users can comment on how well the gaming works

Let me know if you have any more questions?

Mike

Hi Mike

Thank you for the prompt response.

From reading all the comments the general consensus seems to be positive however i have been burnt to many times by other ISP with empty promises, where they commit to fixing there QOS on their networks and nothing happens.

I appreciate the explanation that you have given me however the proof is in the pudding. So with the service agreement I have actioned with Bitco I have requested that they give me an opportunity to stress test the network from a performance perspective for a 48 period, before finally signing on the dotted line. Im awaiting there answer.

I'm sad to say this but there is not one ISP in this country that's up to standard, but im holding thumbs that Bitco proves me wrong!

Thanks again for your prompt response.

Quote"Bitco sell a service offering a 5 MB line and after 60 min of maxing the line they then drop the line to 50 % of the line speed. I have tested my line and I only got 31 min before having my line throttled to 40 % line speed even though it was sold to me as 60 min 50 % line speed. This and other faults with their service.

When I contact Bitco Support, more often than not they just ignore you and after complaining about the shocking service (46 emails to the so called escalations department and 2 months later) I finally get an answer of and I am quoting Jarryd Chatz from Bitco "Our Fair Usage Policy is an ever changing policy. In our terms and conditions and it allows us to change this at our will."

So I get sold something today and then get less than 60% of what I am sold within the first month with absolutely shocking service and they still expect me to pay for it.

I can not think of any company I have dealt with that has worse customer support and when you finally get to the person in charge, they try and pass the blame back to the customer. (all email and voice calls available for anyone who needs proof)"unquote

Mike

Im really getting nervous!!

Please see above, I got this from one of your concerned customers this morning via PM and he is not happy,Bitco seems to put emphasis on creating a relationship with their customers however the above relationship aint gonna carry on if the customer ain't happy.
The biggest concern that i have is the lack of assistance and feedback that your support team has given this gent so much so that he posted a complaint on HELLOPETER.

The question that needs to be asked, do I join the Bitco Family?
Is the after sales support really as good as Bitco says it is?
Is the Fair Usage Policy a black hole of abuse leaving the customer open to any policy making that Bitco sees fit.

With regards to the above, there are always two sides to a story and im not taking sides I am utilizing this situation to ask the right questions before i make a commitment to a company i hardly know which seemingly has outstanding issues with their existing customers!

Ive got this empty feeling in my stomach, I had my thumbs crossed that Bitco was a solution as a reliable stable, uninterrupted internet service provider.

What is the average usage of (quantity)data per month of users on the Bitco network?

Hi Guys,

i am going to start up the other two threads on the Forum for the new FUP update and BitCo news

We are busy activating some new high sites so i will be giving you updates as and when each site goes live

I will also be spending some time in the next few days explaining the new FUP and the planned roll out for all broadband customers

Mike

Hi Mike ,

What happened to this FUP update thread ? . How long before your other loyal customers also get a chance to experience prolonged streaming before being throttled ?

Regards
Pieter
