BitCo Consumer Review

Eish all these issues are making me worry about my scheduled "test with intent to install"...

I must be one of the lucky ones............no packet loss, no lag when playing BF4,Destiny,COD AW etc. Streaming YT HD,Twitch and VIDI no issues. I'm really beginning to think this is all about location, LOS, Fresnel Zone.

Suggestion, maybe get Bitco to re-soak your connections!!
Let them do a live analysis using the same services as the customer utilizes.

FUP is steep but livable.... for now, it does need to be revised!

So I did a quick test streaming a youtube 720 HD video and it rarely went over 3000kbps (60% of speed). Am I correct then if I watch such a video for more than an hour I will not be throttled (assuming no other traffic on my network) as I don't max out my speed, or is 60% still too close to 100%?

I am so disappointed with Bitco.

I signed on last year June and the speed was awesome, i have 5Mb connection. I could skype, web conference without any issues. It seems that since January things have fallen apart. Skype voice calls are bad, web conference VOIP is bad. Now the router keeps on dropping the WiFi.

Please help me out, we work from home and this critical. I am not prepared to move over to a business connection with this type of service.

I would really like to know what has changed with Bitco since the beginning of the year.

Hi Wound3D,

Thanks for the post. Nothing has changed on our side other than significant improvements in general bandwidth

i would like to please have a look at your link and see if its something on the radio side? Please can you PM your Full name or Circuit ID?

Also you mention WIFI inside your home dropping, this could due to to interference from another device inside your house. is it possible you can connect your computer using a LAN cable to the Linksys Router supplied by BitCo and do some general speed testing?

Look forward to your PM

Mike

I decided to play some CS:GO again last night. What a rager I had. That one second lag every 20-30 seconds kills me every time.

Hi Gezza,

I checked your link quickly as i had your name from a previous PM we exchanged

Link looks fine, don't see any reason for a problem?

Can you let me know if this is the only Game doing this? also are your speeds consistent?
Can you stream in 720P without any issues?

I think we might have an issue somewhere with this GS:CO and the ports going through the network

We are going to download and purchase a copy to test in the office tomorrow and will provide an update

Mike

If you watch youtube for an hour, yes, you will get throttled.

Hi Gezza / Goobie,

You can reach the FUP from Watching you tube in HD based on the consistent usage on the line, if you use 100% capacity on the line it will trigger the FUP

If you only use around 60% of the line the FUP trigger will be extended until such time as the usage triggers the FUP

Remember it works off the leaky bucket algorithm so length will be greatly extended based on the usage of the connection.

I personally watch Streaming Media on my 5Mbps often and only reach the FUP if i stream for pro longed periods of time.

You wont find an ISP who can give you 1:1 Uncontended bandwidth without a form of FUP

Majority of Providers believe in heavily contending the bandwidth to limit usage and abuse

We have chosen to keep a premium product with a Temporary usage based FUP

Mike

Really?! Good to know. I will then cancel my planned installation. They almost got me with SUITABLE FOR:....HD YOUTUBE

Damn!

Hi Goobie,

You are welcome to cancel your contract prior to installation.

You can simply contact our home Broadband department on 08600 248 26 or mail [email protected]

Hi Goobie,

Thanks for the info on youtube

If you go back in this thread (Quite far somewhere)

You will see the FUP is based on the leaky bucket algorithm and will trigger once the bucket is being filled faster than it can drain.

So as an example lets say you run your line at a constant 60% of the capacity the FUP will only trigger once the bucket is full, so you may get 2-3 consecutive hours before it kicks in.

When using the link for online streaming you will find that often you can watch for hours without hitting the FUP

Various streaming services consume different amounts of bandwidth and draw the bandwidth in different ways, Netflix is very efficient and only really pulls what it requires so you will find a long extension before you reach the FUP

the FUP has been designed to give the user access to premium 1:1 Bandwidth without any contention ratio but allow for protection against large unsolicited downloads

I hope the info above clarifies for you

Mike

Thanks Mike for the reply

I have now gone through all the pages and I think I understand your leaky bucket algorithm, I also think I can live with the modifications that you made to the FUP to acommodate the streaming experience.

Thanks

Nothing wrong with FUP except 5mbps being too slow to watch HD without being FUPd. 10mbps never has that problem. It's their strategy to get more people paying double :P

... the next one to come online will be - Fairie Glen (Pretoria East)

That's the one I'm watching for !

Massive Concrete Tower up on the hill, will give us amazing coverage on PTA East

Hey Mike

Are you at liberty to say where that new Faerie Glen highsite is located ? (GPS ? :D)
There are two or three hills to the north of Faerie Glen, and even though I've been keeping an eye out from my rooftop, I can't see any sign of a new concrete tower ... ?

Hi @BitCo

I have had your 5Mbps product for about two months now. Everything is working flawlessly except hulu plus. It drops the show I am watching every 3-8 Minutes , then I have to go back and play again. Can you please investigate this urgently or is this a common problem with bitco?

Both youtube and netflix are working perfectly in HD, I use unotelly for my dns provider.

thanks.

It's the way Hulu does it's adverts.
The adverts load in full 1080p in the background while it's trying to stream your episode (ever noticed the adverts never buffer or stop?)

It's not a bitco issue, its the way Hulu works, we have found that selecting a show and putting it on pause for about 2 minutes while you get some coffee lets you run through the entire episode without this issue occuring.
