Hi Garth & Mike,

What happens to my account after the 12 months contract? i believe i should be on a month to month account, and would like to try out the 10MB link with ntv and xbmc, but i was told that if i want to downgrade back to the 5MB i will be charged a downgrade fee of ZAR 500.00.

How accurate is this?

You will be charged for downgrading. I too am curious though what will happen to one year subscribers.

Richard is a rockstar. It's very rare to do a support request and have something fully answered in the first response. Normally you have to deal with dumb questions and a bit of slow back and forth etc which gets frustrating.

I was utterly impressed by him. He's a very good representative for Bitco.

I'm in radiokop and I'm having the exact same issue, I can't get above 1mb speed. Maybe an issue on the tower?

Agreed, must be an area issue. Speed has increased to 2meg... but still bad latency. Ping is over 100. Normally it is really low. Let's hope it improves :p

I am also in radiokop and the last week I have been getting between 1.2MB to 2 MB , and this isnt because of throttling since I download absolutely nothing during the day. This morning I could not even finish a takealot order. This is really pathetic , I thought bitco automaticallty monitored links to fix these problems before you can report it.

Seems like that was just a sales tactic. I am extremely dissapointed it started very well in the beginning, tomorrow I will contact them and if they cannot sort it out I will have no choice but to cancel.

Even my 2MB adsl was better than this , I could at least finish a takealot order. Just to load this mybroadband page I had to refresh about 10 times. Absolutely pathetic.

Ok, nope... not sorted. In all fairness, I was downloading the 5 gig update for GTA V, but I only had full speed for about 30 minutes, after which it dropped to less than half... and after doing a speedtest now, I'm not even getting half a meg.... whats going on here?

This is frustrating to say the least. I was quite pro-BitCo but starting to think that I am paying too much for an "uncapped" system. It's like managing your household power system after installing a solar power system. You have to be careful not to overload the system, else you are poked. With BitCo, you have to be careful how much you use else you get throttled and then you have to wait a while before getting speed again. It is better to get the 10meg package but it is quite expensive and the package adjustments don't seem to be happening any time soon.

I hear that telkom are in our area eventually. I think that I am going to apply for a line again so long. Will pay the penalty for early cancellation to BitCo, but I am think that I need to move back to DSL if I can... until someone brings fibre into our area. Haven't heard anything from BitCo on that either. 12 new complexes, all needing internet... averaging about 50 units per complex.... I guess just like weekend support, they don't need the business.

Sorry, but feeling a bit frustrated right now...

IMO you should not be liable for early cancellation as they are unable to meet their mandate.

HI NightCrawlerNic,

After the 12 month period your contract is then moved onto month to month, our home broadband call center will contact you and try motivate a renewal with an incentive.

you are welcome to upgrade to 10Mbps and if you don't like it go back to the 5Mbps during your contract period

We don't charge an upgrade fee but if a customer wants to downgrade we charge a small fee based on the configuration done on the connection.
