Pretty sure you signed up after me. The FUP has been there even prior to me signing up. I'll have to double check.

You realized what you just said, right?

I signed up last year this time. There might have been an FUP, but not on p2p networks yet. After a month that changed.

Consumers have absolutely no power. This was like Vodacom upping the contract tariffs. Atleast they were decent enough to send an SMS.

Oh wait...think I know what you mean now xD. I was definitely able to p2p in between 6am and 6pm when I signed up.

More than half of my steam games uses p2p for multiplayer.

Yea, you're right, they changed the torrenting after, you're correct.

Shhhh I don't want to see any negativity. Especially not regarding the Honeydew area. My hopes and dreams all depend on line of sight and Bitco. Luckily I don't download stuff (well except for Steam and XBox One games) and don't use torrents at all. To be able to game online would be a nice bonus though.

Where in Honeydew do you stay? I stay on Taylor road. I try not to be negative, because Bitco has given internet access to a lot of people that can not get ADSL. I'm just one of the unlucky few that falls under a crap area.

I'm one street away from you. I'm in Die Ou Pad Road. You know, everyone around there by us want decent internet. It's a goldmine for a fibre provider but we've got nothing.

Why in the world do you have your location set as as Krugersdorp?

Ehm...Profile editing is not my strong suit. :p

Born and raised in Krugersdorp (Not wessies!!!)

The excuse I got from telkom to not upgrade my exchange is: "It is not financially viable to upgrade an exchange with low usage". The exchange is congested. Does congested not mean busy?

Yeah I was on that congested exchange. Most frustrating period of my life. I can never ever go back to Telkom. It was congested and they won't upgrade it. Bloody idiots.

But Gezza, what have Bitco told you about your connection? Is it also congestion or is it another problem?

Quote from Mike:

I have completed a very in-depth test on your link and found that the signal quality is excellent 9/10 and the throughput is also good 9/10 the other tests have failed and we finding large amounts of re-transmits on the radio device

this is caused by horrific radio interference experienced onto the north east side of our tower affecting customers on this side of the Roodeport tower.

What this test shows us that for general web browsing , torrents and even online media streaming you would be ok and not experience a degraded service but with services such as Voice and Online gaming you will constantly experience timeouts and dropped packets as the latency jumps around horribly when their is traffic going over the connection

we have tried changing the radio frequency and also tried to push up the power but find only marginal improvements.

i agree with your sentiments and we are not providing you a connection suitable for online gaming

Based on my findings i would be more than happy to allow you to exit your contract and get a team to come through and DE-install your connection at no charge

The only other option we have to fix this is move you to a different high site on the network, from your location on the map it doesnt look promising though, the only possible high site for you would be cradle stone mall but i am not sure if you will be able to see it from your roof?

Do you know if you can see cradle stone mall?

Let me know your thoughts on the above? we are happy to accommodate your decision based on the fact that this connection doesn't meet our standards and overall quality score is a 6/10, i am not sure how it passed the soak test but might have been fine initially but now gone down hill due to all the illegal operators in that area

Any WISP you decide to use would have this exact same problem unfortunately :-(

Thanks Gezza. I wonder if that radio interference is caused by Sentech being there by us. Someone should do an investigation.

Unfortunately then it looks like my internet problems will continue. :( Damn and I was so hoping that Bitco would solve it for me.

*edit*

Except! I may be able to connect to a different tower than you! The one there on Beyers Naude! It's closer than the Roodepoort one. Can't you connect to that one too?

So I tested the shaping last night, got shaped from 10 down to 5mb ... and it's still more than usable. Quite happy :)

My street goes down in to a dip. The Beyers tower won't be visible for me unfortunately

That sucks man. I have to worry about the neighbour's trees. Hopefully they won't be in the way because I can see in the direction of that tower. May someone come install FTTH in our area soon.

It seems that BitCo is making a killing in the Weltevreden Park/Honeydew/Radiokop/Wigeheuwel/StrubenValley area. Cannot blame them - the Capacity issues at the Panaroma exchange since July 2014 (and before that 2011-2012) is helping their cause.

Yep I had problems with that exchange in the 2011 to 2012 time period. And Telkom kept telling me that nothing is wrong. I hate them so much. And I know so many people in the area who are looking for an alternative. I don't know why it's so difficult to get proper internet. I'm prepared to pay quite a bit for fibre if someone will just take the initiative and target our area.

@ChrisChris, glad you got your link up and running bud!

@Mike, seeing as you're one of the go to guys on the forum :) maybe you could help me? I've signed up for 10MB Home Package, waited 5 Weeks, Installers came out (Very impressed with them - assembled an entire Rocket dish assembly in less than 5 Minutes), they did their tests (Results are very positive, Perfect LOS, No Fresnel Zone interference, etc ...but the only thing they were unable to establish was the distance, which I can confirm is approx. 5.6km [I'm a member of JAWUG and also connect to a person on Roodekrans] ), They were then told to report back to head office and do a full report for the Infrastructure manager (if I remeber correctly)........I'm really hoping to join the Bitco family as I've got a Neighbour thats 100 Meters on the right hand side away from me connecting to the same tower on a 5MB & VOIP line with no hassles.

Please PM me to see what we can do, as their is a definite possiblity of another customer on the same property!
