Ag nee!! I just called them for a quote and asked a lot of questions. I love documentaries on YouTube but, on the 5 MB line, if you stream for longer than an hour you will be throttled to 2.00 MB!! After 6 pm and on weekends you get throttled less with no clear answer on how much less.

Can I stream YouTube on a 2.5 MB line?

I rate-limit my daughters tablet to 2Mb and it streams 720p on Youtube

Ok, I got a mail from the regarding throttling streaming services after an hour. This is what they say but I dont know what it means? Is anyone able to translate it for me please?

Please note that in an event where you are throttled, below are the speeds you can expect depending on the package you are on:

5Mbps throttled to 2Mbps
10Mbps throttled to 5Mbps

With regards to streaming, HD will use about 1550Kbps. After 1 hour of streaming, this will consume about 680Mb of data. For SD, the usage will be less than this. It’s not normal to reach 100% and be shaped while streaming on a HD link. If the client is having this problem, this should be reported to support.

Downloading p2p protocols(torrents) will use the max ability of your connection, so if you are on a 10 meg connection and you download at 10 meg(transfer 1.0mb/s) for a period of an hour they will throttle you(reduce the speed of your connection) to 5mb/s up until your download demand reduces for a period of an hour, then your speed will return back to 10mb/s.

However streaming doesn't use the full connection speed of 10mb/s so you shouldn't be throttled while streaming in SD or HD

Hope this helps

Seems like I get FUP'd even with torrents limited to 250KB/s on a 5mb line from 00:00 to 06:00 :/

OK hang one disiza please :) so, if I take the 5 MB line HD streaming will use the full connection speed and I'll be throttled? Holy smoke, ad rather read a financial contracts fine print :)

I ve had my 5mbps link up and running for a week. I use a chromcast stream youtube for a few hours dont really notice when you get throttled to 2mbps. I previously had 4mbps adsl and when you get throttled to 2mpbs bitco its still better than my adsl.

The FUP will not kick in unless you are using the full connection speed,so if it does then you need to submit a support ticket and find out why it is kicking in.But be sure of your facts before logging.

Note:-Got confirmation today from Richard that the P2P protocols have been out of sync for the last few days which were corrected last night, if you are still having issues log a support ticket.

No,it will not be throttled............. "With regards to streaming, HD will use about 1550Kbps(1.5mb/s download) while streaming. After 1 hour of streaming, this will consume about 680Mb of data. For SD, the usage will be less than this. It’s not normal to use the full 100% connection speed and be shaped while streaming on a HD link. I've logged it 4x times with technical support already - my Facebooks apps stops working on our 2x Galaxy S5's and 3x Ipad's during the day from around 06:00 - 19:00 (functions's 100% normal on Vodacom's network as well as Wifi at the office), only to then miraculously work again at night...This as such clearly seems to be a Bitco network setting issue (perhaps being seen as P2P?), anyone else experience strange and frustrating things like this?
