BitCo Consumer Review

Hmmm... not hearing a lot of good things about Bitco in this thread and it is a bit of a worry...

So is P2P as useless all the time for everyone? I don't mind only being able to download after hours, but having to sign a contract and pay a lot of money for a service that will be mostly useless does not sound good to me.

What happened to full speed of everything and then if abused you get throttled for a bit?

I'm don't have any problems with P2P downloads after hours (5Mbps). During the day P2P aren't that great, but it downloads fast enough during the night, to allow your connection to rest during the day :)

I dont game so cant comment on those issues, but i do stream alot and thats been flawless. i have all my P2P downloads set to run from 11pm to 5am and can download between 4 to 10 gigs in that time which is perfect for me. I have also run some NZb downloads which never get shaped only throttled to 2mbps by the FUP. Had some issues with facetime which have been sorted with a support request. other than that its been a great connection! I m on the 5mbps link and haven't been too bothered by being throttled to 2mbps when using the full link speed for an hour. I canceled dstv and have manged to replace it with my Bitco link.

Do note that they just changed it as they saw fit(and will probably do so again in the future as their home users keep growing), when I signed up with them the fair usage policy read something along the line of, if your connection runs at full speed for more than an hour, your line speed will be halved until you start taking it easy again (normally took an hour or so)... I haven't seen my link do a download at its full potential in while tbh

Well then my account is being flagged to be shaped extra hard, probably because I'm bad mouthing them so much, jokes aside, I've struggled to do more than a 1gb a night the past week or so...

Its finally come to the point where I've had enough, when my problems just started Garth offered to cancel my contract without any penalty fees, at the time I declined the offer because apart from a little packet loss(which has become progressively worse over time) I still had a super speedy connection which I could use for downloads...

Now my connection really serves no purpose anymore, I've emailed Bitco and Garth to hear if the offer still stands, hopefully I can get out of this without any penalties, and move to a capped ADSL account, all I want to do is play some CSGO without packet loss, is that to much to ask:cry::D

Sitting at my Financial Advisers offices in North Riding where they use BitCo for both Voice and Internet - not sure what option they have with BitCo but here's a sneaky Speedtest:

Eish...

Got home at 17:30. Watched 2 Youtube videos, switched on Netflix on the PC, Wife's tablet and the TV. Already throttled? This can't be right.
Mike/Garth can you please have a look at my usage graph and see wth is going on? I need to know if someone is using the connection during the day. That can be the only explanation. I highly doubt it though.

Guess I'll have to upgrade now? 2Mbps is just not working for streaming netflix on 3 devices

Update: I ran the test twice could not get past 2mbps. I just ran it now again and I got 3.8 and 4.2
I just don't know...

.

I've found my connection syncs 1-2mb/s below 5mbs during peak times

Yip something is definitely up with my connection, speeds are normal http://netgauge.ookla.com/share/203172013.png, but p2p downloads still shaped heavily even this time of night, running at 15KB/s

So after what you've mentioned about shaping torrent ( p2p downloads still shaped heavily) did a test last night to download a couple of things and to my surprise, had 2 files completed and the third one running at 2mb did a speedtest and it was running at 8.something MB
so all files should have been downloaded. Definitely being shaped heavier than before.

All good my side, just had a few inconsistent performance spikes but then seconds later everything returns back to normal. It is more than likely the techs at Bitco fiddling with the network trying to resolve the BF4 issue....who knows!

Maybe a bird farted while sitting on one of the receivers/towers.......wgas

@Bitco...... lately, to many inconsistencies on your network, the ball is being dropped!!!

I think they are very busy and they must be getting a ton of new customers. For now I don't know what's going on with our fibre situation and I'm tired of waiting. So my BitCo installation is happening not the coming Monday but the one after.

I have decided to just upgrade to 10Mbps. At least I'll be able to stream Netflix on all devices when needed. Will also help with my http downloads and game updates.

I'm currently on a 10mb and have to say the streaming on multiple device is working awesome so far touch wood. Just hope they can make the rest of the service the same.

I think it might have to do with my upgrade of my machine. I used to be able to watch on all devices no problem. But now that I have the R9 290 card it seems to be streaming in HD too. So the TV is streaming HD 1080. Pc streaming 1080 and then the tablet of the wife so it's struggling a bit. When it was just the TV on HD and the tablet it was 100%. Adding the HD pc now. Eish...

I just don't know if I'm prepared to pay R1500 a month for internet. So I really hope the 5mb will cut it for me. Provided I've got line of sight.

My survey (and install?) is scheduled for next week. Here's holding thumbs.
