Garth,

I'm getting bit annoyed that my line get FUP'd even when i'm streaming content from you tube. Last night I was trying to watch an hour video and half way through my line speed was dropped to 1mb and I could not complete my video and ended up getting fed up and shut my pc down.

I was always under the impression that Bitco don't apply the FUP on the lines for video streaming but I see this is starting to take place now. I cannot even stream a decent SD (360P) video from XBMC, at first I thought it maybe the broken link or something but I see FUP kicks in regardless of what I do. This supposed to be a premium service but it feels as though I'm still running on Telkom's network. Please assist.

Was about to comment that I don't have that issue at all, then realised you on the 2Mbps option. I can't comment on that I'm on the 5Mbps.

Regardless, I feel like I'm paying R855 p/m for a 2mb line because its always at 2mb. Despite me only using the line for streaming and gaming, no downloads at all. The other thing that seems to be getting to me is that it seems Garth has abandoned this topic entirely now.

Yup I remember specifically early on in this thread a few people asked about the FUP, and Garth mentioned (not in these exact words, and I'm to lazy to search through the whole thread) that things like Xbox/PSN downloads, Streaming, Youtube won't be seen as "abuse" only things like heavy torrent downloading

What does the contract state that you signed?

From their website

"Customer behaviour which may cause an Internet service to be throttled includes using
bandwidth intensive protocols such as peer-to-peer or performing unattended downloads of
large files. Throttling may also occur when a customer downloads at near 100% of the line
capacity for approximately 1 hour. The throttling is then automatically removed after the
excessive usage has stopped for a similar period of time."

So I suppose the guys downloading xbox/Ps updates are screwed by the FUP, but don't think its fair to throttle someone who is streaming for extended periods?

I mainly got Bitco so I can cancel DSTV subs and stream more latest varieties of stuff. But now here we stand with this dilemma of FUP.

Have any of you raised the above points on any other medium other than this thread?, Understand the downloading side of the FUP but streaming and gaming should not at all effect the FUP.

No I think you misunderstood me.

What I'm saying is, no matter what I do I don't have streaming issues since I don't go below 2.5Mbps. So I would not notice the throttling kicking in since my streaming still runs flawless regardless of throttling or not. By no means was I implying that your issue isn't a concern :)

edit: O and Garth and Michael was on leave as per an e-mail I got from Michael. They should be back at the office now though since Monday. Probably just catching up on work. You guys are free to e-mail them directly I suppose?

FUP is quite harsh

Considering the only time I use the internet is between 6pm - ~12pm for streaming/browsing (all my downloads are done at office) at about 7-8pm I get throttled. So only about ~30h per month I get 5mbps, rest is 2mbps. The other 16h of the day nothing is even using the line.

Not that 2mbps is bad, just makes streaming in 720p impossible while doing anything else..

I need to pay for a 10mbps line just to get 5mbps comfortably

Quite worrying to hear about the FUP affecting video streaming. Was really hoping this would be a perfect solution to replace DSTV :(

Had the install done today. Waiting for activation.

My ipad is finished, and my iphone is almost too! :) So I don't think it's on bitco's side?
