I don't have that silver circle thingy on my disch. but it's the same setup. Will post pics tonight when I get home

Thanks noemfie. Much more informative. Wonder if we can hide the router in the ceiling perhaps.

They asked me where I wanted the Wifi-router. Sure they can hide it. But I'll post a pic of mine. It's a very nice router not hard on the eyes.

so how does the throttling work exactly?if i download for 24 hours, would my line be halved for 24 hours? or would like after 6-12 hours would i essentially be turned off(throttled to like 384 speed)

hi devdev666

This issue has been discussed extensively within this thread.

You will be throttled to half your line speed when downloading for long periods ... eg: 2Mbps to 1Mbps. Your speed will resume to full speed after an hour of no downloading.

So I see that bitco and chatz have partnered to sell internet into the residential segment.

Wonder if chatz will offer different deals?

At last an honest provider who gives insight into their over-subscription methods. I'd much rather have a plain explanation of what happens and a straight bursted line that remains essentially usable when not bursted over the hash that goes on in the ADSL space. The closer consumers get to peering with ISPs on datacenter terms the better.

In the old days of IS Afrihost accounts I took my afrihost 10meg connection, had a CIR of 4 meg for streaming and other buckets in a Mikrotik router and all was glorious. Shaping by more complex means made me abandon "uncapped" ADSL and any thought of QoS on the client side was made useless.

Wowza that looks like either a 27 or a 30 dBi dish. The Shield just helps with less incoming intereface into the dishs horn. Impressive. You must be atleast 5 or 6 kms from their highsite otherwise that dish is overkill

Garth,

international latency seems a little higher than normal this evening. Are there any issues you are aware of?

I am indeed that far away :) . Perfect LOS (can see highsite from my driveway) but the installer said it's about 5-6Km as you mentioned

Apologies guys. When I got home it was too dark to take pictures. Will take some tonight or tomorrow morning.

I have given my feedback on the install as I was very impressed. They even caught the dust from the wall when they drilled. The wires are all neatly coiled to the right lengh and then cable tied (In-case you need to move it and use the extra wire). The actual cable coming from the roof has those cable pins that you hit into the wall. The inside they used a glue gun to fix the wire nicely and neatly in the corner of the wall running it down to the room where it was required.

They even cut off the excess of the cable ties and picked them all up afterwards. This was very well done. The installers also need to take pictures of the installation when they are done on everything they did. It's used for quality check purposes at the office to see if the installation was up to scratch. I have ZERO complaints about Bitco to date.

Thanks for the install pics, noemfie. That is one hectic dish! Looks like a Ubiquiti 30dBi RocketDish? Those are quite pricey...

Can the other guys post installation pics if they don't mind? :)
