BitCo Consumer Review

And is the shield an RF Armor shield? The whole setup must be an expensive install for them, hence the contract terms.

If this is the type of hardware being used, I have to wonder if my R1000pm spent on LTE and 25+25GB data will not be better invested in a BitCo install...I'd still need to weigh a 24 month contract against FTTH which I may be able get in the same time frame.

Those Ubiquiti dishes rock. I have one pointed to a high site 7.2km away and it's rock solid.

Who will you be getting FTTH from in the Helderkruin area?

You can get a month to month by paying the R 4 500 installation fee. I can't be bothered though as I need the internet. I was sceptical at first but now since it's in I have no problem with the contract. Top notch I tell you TOP NOTCH!

I can also give some feedback on support I received from Bitco 2 days ago . Got home and noticed I had no internet connection , restarted switch and router and nothing and decided to give Bitco a call . Selected the support option and were greeted with a "Hi Pieter" 2 seconds later . Was taken aback by how they knew my name but figured my cell no were linked to their system . Told them I had no internet , the support person told me he can see my switch but not my router . I then realized my domestic worker cleaned that morning and then saw she slightly unplugged the WAN cable :D . So yeah with an embarrassing "Ooops" I plugged the cable back in and all was sorted .

Less than a 1 minute call :)

Fast friendly and efficient , beat that TELKOM !

This is what I like about their client services currently. No matter who you talk to. You just mention your name and it's like everyone knows you personally. They know which person to put you through to. Who was dealing with you and so on. I have never once had to give them my surname or even my address. I just say: "Good afternoon it's Herman calling, someone from bitco tried to call me" "Just hold on, I'll put you through". Correct person answers and they are ready to advise me on what the call was about.

Feels like they know you on a person to person bases and I love it.

*Whether this might change as they grow I don't know. But currently exceptionally happy with Bitco on the service side as well as the internet side.*

Would just like to thank Garth publicly for the help over the weekend on MyBB. I only expected help today with my questions but he responded over the weekend. Great advice and thank you again for all the assistance on here.

Hi Garth. Reading the FUP it states that throttling may occur when a customer downloads at near 100% of line capacity for approximately 1 hour.

My question, for arguments sake a 10Mbps link, is can a QoS (via MAC address as I have dedicated devices for streaming and downloading) be setup to run at say 5Mbps continuously without incurring the throttling penalty?

I usually download only after hours but the kids stream a lot at all times.

Hi All,

I have just signed and sent the quote through for the 10Mb service. I am looking forward to joining the family. I currently do have a Wifi provider with 5Mb but the cap hits me each month and the bulk comes form Netflix and Hulu. I figured, even if i hit the throttle, i still will get 5Mb which is all i really need. Other than that, they have been good to me.

Do any of you have speed tests and real life results for the 10Mb line, i see there is for the 5Mb but none on the 10Mb. I am expecting the same type of latancey as i previously got so i am more than happy with that from what i have read. Only one small request though from Garth, If at all possible, can you try get it done before the end of the month so i do not have to pay my current provider another month as well as Bitco.

Looking forward to giving my results and speedtests to you all.

Bitco is not going to charge you upfront, so if they only install next month, you'll only be charged a pro rata the end of the month for the remaining days of that month, thats how it worked for me atleast

Ahh, thanks Wikkels88. They said billed upfront in the contract, but if that's the case i am not to worried, just did not want to fork out 4K on internet end of this month. Now, what will i do with the equipment i have from my possible ex provider....

Mount it above your fire place so that one day you can show your kids what bad internet looked like...?

Bitco installed at my place today. I am very happy!! The team was very professional and did a clean job. Now I can't wait for the link to get handed over to me. :)

What happens if you sign a 24month contract and move within that contract period? how does the installation cost work with that?

Was covered in this thread. If signal at new place = R 950 move fee. If no signal, early termintaion charges.
