BitCo Consumer Review

Waiting for my second attempt at an install, trees cut down ... Hopefully they arrive today

I want to hear from somebody who is using BitCo VOIP.
Is the call quality reliable? Is it cost effective compared to my old Telkom line?
Which wireless IP phone is affordable and works well for general home use?
Is there any Callmore time after hours?
PS; BitCo have installed my hardware within 8 days from signing the contract. Thanks BitCo! It exceeded my expectations by far.

Would also like to know if it is cost effective compared to telkom and if it is possible to use any VOIP phone/device? Looking at the 5mbps internet package and porting our landline to voip.

:(
well hopefully tomorrow i will find out what the report is from yesterdays tests.

Is there any word on the new towers in Pretoria East? I'm sitting with a quote for WiradXtreme (Bankserv) but I'd really rather go with Bitco...

HI Ebendl,

I don't know PTA very well but we are in the process of building our high site in an area called faerie glen. if you are in that area you can PM us your details and we can see if you would be in range of the new tower before you make any decisions.

Hi Stormj,

Our Voice is very simple and definitely a great option for you.

So how it works is that a separate port on the Cisco Switch installed at your house will be provisioned for Voice services, the reason we provision a separate port is so we can provide dedicated bandwidth for voice and thus no impact your data connection.

Our call quality will be crystal clear and extremely stable as we have our own National Voice network with interconnect agreements to all the operators.

You are able to keep your existing Telkom land line number by simply porting this to BitCo free of charge

When it comes to a Telephone Device you can essentially use any SIP compliant device although we sell and recommend a Siemens Gigaset A510 IP Cordless phone.

This Cordless IP Telephone can handle a repeater if you would like to extend the rage as well as multiple cordless handsets

All the pricing for Voice services can be found on our web site under this link - http://bitco.co.za/voice-solutions/voice-for-home-wireless-internet-connection/

Using our Voice services would give you an average saving of 30% VS your traditional Telkom line as the call rates from BitCo are significantly cheaper and billed on a per second basis

Let us know if you would like any more info?

Okay, I might have LOS to Faerie Glen. Guess I'll wait it out...

What's the waiting time - 3 months or less?

Hi Ebendl,

Less than 3 months for that site, i will provide you an accurate ETA as soon as i speak to the infrastructure teams.

ill also create a list of the towers coming for 2015 for all of you who don't yet have LOS

Just don't think about moving house if you contract for any period! BitCo call centre agent just told me that BitCo would cancel the subscription and call the remaining payments due if I move house and they don't have signal at the new place and therefore can't move the dish. Since I wanted to go on the 24 month contract and I'm planning to move in 4 months, that'd be a cool R18k for the privilege. Ouch!

That has been covered in this thread. I don't think it's unfair to any party tbh. You can always pay the full installation and have a month to month :)

Thank you Mike! Will be applying within the next week, quick question if I want to port a landline to voip can I apply for both 5mbps wireless and VOIP with porting. Or must I wait for the link to be installed then apply for the voip port? Do you have any documentation I can read on this process what is required from my end before porting a line?

Thanks in advance, Luke

The Bitco installers were at my place last week and said that there is no clear line of site but they will take the test results back to the office. Will I get official communication / phone call or can I now assume the contract is null and void.

I had the same scenario. They came out on Monday afternoon and I called them by Thursday as I had heard anything further. Was told that service could not be provided and contract was null and void. They said they would keep my application on file and let me know if new high sights went up in my area.

I received a phone call just now from Bitco. So definitely no line of sight and my order is cancelled.
