Same here really slow speeds. East Rand

Hi No-Rules,

Some good news for you guys in the East Rand :)

On Sunday morning 05/07/2015 we have successfully completed the deployment of a Dark Fibre connection to our high site feeding most of the east rand network.

This will result in a significant drop in latency and an overall increase in performance

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the good news.
Is there any more of those fiber laying around that can run to me.

So,

after weeks of we all know 6.... Bitco is installing tomorrow at Bonaero park just off Atlas road.
Really dreading the sight of a tree so I'll post on the experience for anybody in the Bonaero area.

Anyone that stay in the Bonaero district??(Kempton Park)

Seems Bitco is now blocking certain torrent trackers completely , cant start my torrents at all , when switching to 3g connection , the torrents starts instantly , not cool Bitco ! , please sort this out , I will log a ticket as well

Hi Mike,

Any ETA on the fibre upgrade for the high sites on the west rand?

Is there a difference between mybroadband's speedtest and speedtest.net? I was requested to submit another speedtest from mybroadband as the one from speedtest.net is insufficient. As far as I have it mybroadband just uses the speedtest.net plugin (Ookla). It really gives off an air of stall tactics =/

Sitting with the same problem.

My response I got on torrents.

On our website it states. "During the week from 6am – 7pm peer-to-peer traffic is shaped, but during all other times of the day and weekends the shaping is lessened" http://bitco.co.za/home-internet-faq. The shaping is dependant on how many clients are downloading torrents at the time.

Alrighty, new to the forum, but i have been reading posts here for the last 8 weeks or so as i decided that i should go with Bitco. This is just a post for anyone wanting to sign up but isnt sure about the service or the waiting time.

Basically did the paper work 7 weeks ago, service pretty good, Nadine responded to emails quickly and no issues from that side.

They came through last week and discovered that the ladder they have isn't long enough (I did tell them im on the second floor so it was never going to be a small building). So already they cost me half a day of billing as i work on commission.

So rescheduled for today with a longer ladder, the guys climbed up looked around for a couple of minutes and said no LOS.

So i am disappointed that there is no LOS, and i can deal with that as that's just the way it is. Not pleased with the amount of time to get a no, i totally understand that i knew before hand that it would take so long, but for me to recommend Bitco to any of my clients/friends/family is near impossible. 6 weeks is way to long, and anyone reading this forum that may think it wont take that long it really does take 6 weeks.

Overall it seems like Bitco's service is decent, however Bitco really needs to work out a better method for doing assessments. A 6 week waiting period is a telkom timeline, and that's very poor to me and im sure for a lot of potential customers.

However I am seeing this as a bit of a blessing in disguise as the posts recently on this thread about gaming and the FUP already turned me off of bitco a bit as i am a gamer and i do average about 200 to 400gb a month of downloads.

Anyway, my only option now is basically Neotel or Telkom LTE busniess uncapped, which means a 24month contract to those clowns.

The six Week waiting period just to know if they can actually service you is ridiculous. Even telkom is quicker. Moving to a new place and had to order an adsl line just as a contingency if they dont get los.

They are also very arrogant when it comes to equipment. I wanted voip and they insist that i purchase a gigaset from them, when telling them that I already have exactly the same model, i get told that i have to purchase another one from them because they will only configure their own equipment. Not a good start ,

Not exactly bending over backwards

Hi Goat2285,

We have 2 high sites close to your location, one is actually inside Bonaero business park and the other is just outside ORT International airport.

Hope you do have LOS, trees in that area are always a problem.

Best of luck with your LOS test :)

Hi Guys,

We are in the final stages of testing a DPI on our network. This is a very sophisticated deep packet inspection tool designed to individually identify the data packets and prioritize them accordingly.

We have found ourselves in a position whereby our traditional torrent shaping policy is not working based on the fact many online games now use the Peer 2 Peer protocol for updates and game play.

At the moment you will find the same as it was before whereby Torrents are heavily shaped from 6am -6pm and then open and get faster and faster as the backlog clears.

On weekends torrents are open and the shaping does not apply.

We are confident once we finish this test that only P2P will be affected by the shaping protocol and will be the solution to the problem experienced by some online games.

We will make a formal announcement towards the end of the week once we have concluded the final testing but this DPI is going to benefit everyone on the network.

Hi Dave,

We are about 2 weeks away from Activating a Dark Fibre Circuit into our West Rand High Site.

Will make the formal announcement once we are live as we are still currently testing the link before cut over takes place

Hi ChrisChris,

The Speedtest.net server would randomly choose a host each time you connect so if the ISP hosting the session does not peer with your ISP or has limited bandwidth allocated to the speed test you will get an inconsistant result.

you will find its best to test a few times to different servers locally.

The My Broadband speed test will always give you an accurate result as the host does not change and they have sufficient bandwidth

Hi Japesgrapes,

Thanks for the post and we are really sorry to hear you did not get LOS to our network.

We are working to reduce the lead time on our home product and hope to have this reduced significantly as we increase infrastructure staff allocated to home broadband.

On the FUP and online gaming if you read my previous post you will see we have made a sizable investment into a DPI server to resolve just that.

Please keep an eye on this thread as each time we activate a new site or make a change to our product and policy we update this public forum

you can't see it but so far 2 big thumbs up for Bitco KZN..

Bitco paperwork submitted on 30 June, installation completed on 3 July and router handover on 8 July... i guess the turn around time is pretty good in Durban.

i got a 5mb line and it worked very well yesterday. As per speedtest.net on android, i manage 5mbps download and 1.4mbps with 12ms ping on average... i used the line to stream 1080p from youtube for awhile and tested a torrent and got average speed of 550mbps which was good.

this morning however is different, i have run multiple speedtests and i'm getting 3mbps and 1.4mbps 13ms ping on average... have i been throttled? line last used yesterday at 1030pm??

Hi Mike

Can you please advise me if this will be a yes or a no. Yesterday the tech came and left like after 10 15 min. This is the email i received from Bitco

My tech has just advised that he won’t be able to install, there is a slight issue with the signal.

I have requested he submit a report to head office so that management may review it. If management are able to advise on a solution to improve signal I will contact you to schedule in an installation date for early next week

I need to know if i have to take other business opportunities......

So now users have to use a VPN instead because of all the shaping. You have blocked torrents completely it seems.

Any chance at offering different packages rather on the home accounts that are unrestricted.

Otherwise Unotelly upgrade to a full VPN costs ~$6 extra and eliminates all your hard work in preventing network abuse.
