BitCo Consumer Review

Bitco paperwork submitted on 30 June, installation completed on 3 July and router handover on 8 July... i guess the turn around time is pretty good in Durban.

i got a 5mb line and it worked very well yesterday. As per speedtest.net on android, i manage 5mbps download and 1.4mbps with 12ms ping on average... i used the line to stream 1080p from youtube for awhile and tested a torrent and got average speed of 550mbps which was good.

this morning however is different, i have run multiple speedtests and i'm getting 3mbps and 1.4mbps 13ms ping on average... have i been throttled? line last used yesterday at 1030pm??

Update: i logged a ticket at 7am this morning with subject as my full name and type of service; i was contacted at 440pm and was asked who the account holder is. That is bad service and not professional at all.

The main problem is that even since this morning right up to now on the speedtest on android i am getting a download of 3mbps, upload of 1.2mbps and ping of about 12ms; remembering that i got over 5mbps download since install and that was using the same speedtest on android and also it was pinging the same server.

I need to understand what is going on here as this is not good as i have clear line of sight to the tower... and am only 2km away...

i need answers...

Yup, VPN because Bitco would rather invade my data use (deep packet inspection - wheres the right to privacy) and claim its for my benefit.

100% agree..

I am willing to bet that this new DPI tool is just like the present Bitco systems in that it is far too complicated to explain its workings..........
Result is still that we need a nanny?

P2P restrictions today. FAB everyday. .. what's tomorrow? HD Streaming . Online Gaming. No porn!!!

Has anyone else noticed their FUP kicking in after less than 30 minutes of full line usage?
This is pathetic as I am unable to download even a small game patch before I get the FUP!!

Then to top it off, I wait over an hour with hardly any usage and still not back to full line speed. I work from 7am to 6pm almost everyday, during this time not a single MB get's used on my line. Then I get home and by 6:30 I have reached the FUP and can only use my glorified 2mb line? Oh yeah and since when is half of 5mb only 2mb?

I have multiple screenshots from over the last 2 weeks but just look at the latest one from tonight:
bitco.jpg

So for the amazing price of R899 pm I get full line speed for just under 30 minutes a day!!

Bitco? WTF?

Welcome to Bitco ;)

You pay R899 for a so called top class 5MB line according to Bitco but don't use it for more than an hour else they will take it away lol

The problem is they make too much money from throttling the guys and not allowing them to use the line they pay for

If they juts implement a soft cap people would b much happier, only the abusers would suffer

Their FUP is the stupidest thing ever, Only Bitco benefits from it not their customers

If BitCo is selling 1:1 bandwidth like they claim on their site, then shaping should not be necessary...

Sentiments which myself and others have raised earlier in this thread already. It is obviously not in their best interests to answer though...

Honestly you purchase 1mb links bursted to 2mb, 2mb > 5mb, 5mb >10mb - but priced like the higher speed option.

It's 2015 - Streaming is a reality. This is why fast expensive uncapped connections are purchased by people. The one hour FUP crap is not suited to home use... If you must then limit p2p stuff to "downloading hours", but give people full link speeds in "home hours" to consume content the way they want.

Hi Yasheev,

Please can you pm me your full name and ticket number so i can investigate the fault and see what support are looking at?

We do not have any network issues in KZN so must be something localized to your CPE

Mike

Hi Mike

Can you please advise me if this will be a yes or a no. Yesterday the tech came and left like after 10 15 min. This is the email i received from Bitco

My tech has just advised that he won’t be able to install, there is a slight issue with the signal.

I have requested he submit a report to head office so that management may review it. If management are able to advise on a solution to improve signal I will contact you to schedule in an installation date for early next week

I need to know if i have to take other business opportunities......

HI Goat2285,

Please can you PM me your name under which you had applied so i can pull pictures and signal results for you.

Please also include your E-mail address so we can share the info with you

Mike

So happy to see this...thought torrents just stopped working for me completely. Hope this makes everything alot better!

Hi Cal384,

Believe me this is the solution to bandwidth optimization.

We are still in final test stage so we will release something more formal once we have completed the testing.

At the moment you will still be able to torrent from 7pm each night & on weekends

Hi OCD,

We need to take all users into consideration.

We cannot provide 1:1 bandwidth and let users run P2P downloads (Unattended downloading 24/7) it would not be sustainable for any ISP.

We are focused on ensuring the online media streaming & Online gaming get the highest priority on the network 24/7 and when users want to download Torrents (P2P) this is to be done after hours.

Once this is all in place we are going to then move towards revising the FUP policy to fit this to the customers requirement as without Torrent abuse we will not need to be as aggressive on the FUP

Hi Louispires,

Please can you PM me your full name under which your link is loaded so i can have a look into the FUP configuration for your specific link.

Your pictures above don't look quite correct, you should only reach the FUP after 1 hour of utilization

This is all I want and currently getting.

I fully support this business view :)

Hi All,

Please can you let us know if your torrents (P2P) Traffic does not work in the evenings and on weekends?

We found an issue in the North West Provence which has been resolved last night 09/0/2015

Please can you send us a PM with your name and location so we can investigate

Although we are confident that P2P traffic will resume like normal from 7pm

Mike

I'm the same. People won't like me for this but I don't care about torrents at all.

Hi Solitude,

I we agree with you.

Everyone wants to Torrent and should have the right to do so after hours.

We cannot allow ongoing abuse of P2P negatively affect the users on our network and compromise services like online gaming, Streaming and general web usage.

We are aggressively working towards this and are a few days away from a permanent solution.

We will ensure to formally update everyone once we are complete with testing

Mike

Don't you guys advertise 1:1 though?
Together with Unshaped, unlimited, 60-min leaky bucket 50% throttling. Yep, that's what they advertise. Now there's also talk about revising the FUP. Those who have contracts with BitCo are going to love it.
