BitCo Consumer Review

Internet just went down in the Fourways area.

Yip, but running again.

I thought it was my rocket again, had it replaced twice in three months now. Was not looking forward to logging another fault saying it's gone pear shaped again. Still haven't figured out why the previous two died. No lightening strike, just stopped working.

^ Granted.. there is no SA servers. So lag is probably to be expected.
180+ ping on EU servers will be quite bad to play on a FPS.

I don't know if that is your problem with Battlefront. :p

For some reason I am currently not even getting 1Mbps... Need to check who is streaming in the house atm. :(

Hi there BitCo Representative

Unfortunately my issues with BitCo have nothing to do with AUP. Infact, please see below...

This was taken after a short spell of streaming and nothing else. It was like this over the weekend, and I barely even used the connection on the weekend. This started when the tower I was on got congested, and even though you guys "cleared it up", my connection has never been the same.

So thanks, but no thanks.

You guys taking the home offering off the market (maybe for now), just confirms that you are aware of issues, and instead of letting it get worse, you stopped taking on new business. Clever. But it hasn't gotten better and you still keep telling us that its the AUP etc. I have been chatting with various employees of BitCo, I have a history of problems. But anyways, rather cut my losses now than throw money at it (BitCo). For now, LTE works fine. I am limited, but feel no more limited than I am with BitCo. I am getting about 35meg. Which is constant for as long as I have bandwidth, so I don't worry about an unfair FUP kicking in.

Anyways, enough said....

Hi Preacher,

Can you please PM us your details so we can escalate and have your link investigated further? We are unable to obtain your full details from our Mybb forum database.

Quick question, if you are on month to month, you you still need to pay the R800 odd moving fee when upgrading/downgrading your account?

Don't think the fee applies to upgrading and downgrading. Only Moving from location to location.

Downgrade was discussed in this massive thread and there is no downgrade fee once you're out of your agreed contract 12/24 months.
And there is no charge to upgrading no matter the contract status.

Yeah, I do remember seeing it somewhere in here, but the thread is a bit of a monster now and unless searching for exact terms you can't really find what you need. :(

Thanks Pitbull

That's not what i was told a month back when i wanted to upgrade. If i wanted to upgrade i would have had to cough up.

Can anyone on 10MB link confirm if ntv streams without buffering even after the FUP has kicked in.

Definitely not the case as per previous posts by Mike and Garth.
I don't do nvt. But can confirm no buffering on Netflix or Hulu even with 4 devices streaming at once. (Different quality ofc due to the devices.)

So received a quote for a downgrade. Fee is R500. That really does seem a bit steep for a few clicks of a mouse to change the line...

I'll find that post if it kills me tonight... Just quote it.

Lol, that was actually pretty quick.

Edit again:

Sorry seems like I was wrong. That was regarding the contract length.

Here is a post confirming downgrade pricing :(

Hi All,

Just a quick update for those of you who didn't receive our "Holiday announcements from BitCo"

Annual Network Freeze:

BitCo's annual network freeze will be effective from 15 December 2015 to 11 January 2016. This ensures optimum services and no disruptions for our existing clients during the holidays.

Please note that we are installing as many orders as are manageable before this date, however, should our scheduling department reach capacity, installations which cannot be completed this year will be queued for completion on a first in first out basis from 11 January 2016.

What is a network freeze?

A Network freeze is common practice among all service providers. It refers to when we halt any and all configuration changes to our core network to ensure stability and uptime over the holiday period. For this reason, while we still accept orders after a certain date, we do not perform any further installations as all of our traffic runs through our core network.
Our annual network freeze will take place from 15 December 2015 to 11 January 2016.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I recall there was a change in debit order dates over December last year. Will this still be the case this year? If so, please can you update us accordingly so we can have the funds ready for collection. I would hate to be cut off in your down period :p

Hi Pitbull,

No change in debit order dates, you may receive statements and invoices a bit early but the actual debit order is managed by the bank and will run on the date it always does.

standard payment dates apply for all users, nothing changes in December other than the network freeze :)

O I think that's what it was then. Apologies Mike, thank you for the update.

my 2c.

i have had bitco home wireless 10mb/2mb for around 2 months now @ 1500r pm. every speed test iv done to date has given me 9.7+ and 1.8+ down/up. I live in atlasville, boksburg. close to altasmall.

Pro's:
speed wise the line is amazing i must say. i get on avg around 1.1mbps download to pretty much anything. twitch streams without hitch on source (provided your using livestreamer. if not then there's the odd 1 sec buffer every now and then). YouTube is flawless. in fact i can watch multiple 1080p60 vids at the same time without buffer.

Cons:
gaming wise its OK at best. my online experience has been OK. when i got the line, being wireless in nature i knew there might be a few hiccups but had i known that there would be semi constant packet loss i probably would of opted to stay on adsl (i use the line mostly for gaming anyway). i have frequent frame stuttering/rubber banding, around once every 20-30 secs, sometimes more frequent and sometimes less depending on link saturation, signal strength and i guess extending to high site congestion. latency wise the line is excellent. constant 15-20ms in almost every game sometimes less. so in conclusion, if you think you can get used to the rubber banding, its OK. it kinda does suck tho. sometimes youl rubber band at a crucial moment and that will cost you the round or a death.

their FUP is also worth noting. its a little different than what most are used to but it does seem to work pretty well. i probably dont notice it as much as some others as even when limited to 5mbps, youtube and twitch stream mostly without a hitch. but to those who are getting the 5mbps line. do be careful as being limited to 2.5mbps will severely hamper a 1080p steam.

so all in all id give them a positive 7/10. i did log the above issue with their support and have had pretty constant feedback thus far even tho i suspect there is nothing or very little they can do to fix the issue short of placing a high site right next to me or giving me fiber so support wise, they're good and as i said speed wise the line is near perfect. gaming wise not so much.

keep in mind tho that being wireless it is all about location location location. ask them for a 7 day trial before you sign any contact.

It is 18:30 and my downloads are not exceeding 7.5kbps whereas it is usually 600kbps after 18h. Is this how we're going to roll moving forward or am I experiencing a line issue (speedtest etc. seems fine).
