BitCo Consumer Review

10mb is now R999.

Didn't get an email as in marketing or something, I recently downgraded to 5mb (to save money) and then managed to be able to upgrade back to 10mb.

Got a mail from supporting quoting the R999 figure, at first thought it was an upgrade fee, but they later confirmed it's R999 per month for 10mb now.

Perhaps one of the BitCo guys can confirm?

This is correct, I emailed them and confirmed that the 5Mb connection can upgrade to the 10Mb connection for R999.

I also upgraded to 10Mb connection for R999 a month. I asked them if they made a mistake and they said the prices have been lowered. It doesn't look like they let anyone know about this.

Also I must say my connection has been amazing these last couple of months. Especially now that I'm on 10Mb. I'm even going to drop DSTV in favour of Netflix and ShowMax now. We've been trying them out over the last couple of weeks and have had no problems whatsoever.

Hi Guys,

After countless emails to the support department and after escalating my issue I decided to post my issue here. Maybe then I will get answers.

I had the 5 Mbps Home setup and upgraded to the 10 Mbps a couple of months ago. Best choice I made. But after about 2 months the problems started.

I would rarely get more than 5Mbps. So I logged a support request. After a few emails they said there was a problem in the Rustenburg area. Speed was good for a couple of days and then it all started again.

Logged another request and then after a couple of days without response I escalated. Morne helped me and asked me to do all the relevant speed test etc. So after an investigation he told me that my line was fully utilized during the one evening and caused the FUP to kick in but although I had a download running during the night the line was not used at all from 6am till 3pm yet the line was still throttled when I got back home at 3pm.

Then I decided to do another test. Didn't use my line for a whole day apart from two phones connected on the wifi. No downloads just basic FB browsing etc. By 5pm line slowed right down. About a 150Mb was used during that day according to the router. So my question was why is the line slowed down when its barely used?

Till today I have no answer. No reply on my last email.

At this stage when I get home I start up my PC and start playing online. CS:GO to be precise and I would experience packet loss of 30% or the ping would jump to far over 500ms. Do a speed test and the speed wont even reach 1Mbps.

All of the above info including screenshots of the ping and packet loss with all the speed tests done at different times was sent trough to the support center and still the problem persist and I don't have any answers on what is going on.

Paying this amount of money for a 10Mbps line with so much issues is just unacceptable in my opinion. I had none of the above problems with the 5Mbps setup.

So hopefully I can get some answers now

For everyone here having issues on bitco home...the problem is mostly simple...the ISM bands (5GHZ) which the ubiquity equipment runs on are congested. Resolution...there is none if there is no clean spectrum in your area. case closed

The R999 is for 5MB users who upgrade to 10MB only.
If you already on 10MB they wont give you the lower price? Which makes no sense at all ??

You need to train your support staff better BitCo. Also why are we as 10MB subscribers not eligible for price discounts ?

Cant I just downgrade to 5MB and then upgrade back to 10MB ? How stupid can you be ?

It's called "getting rid of the pesky residential users" policy.

Funny how that was never an issue when I was on the 5Mbps link :erm:

Its time for me to say goodbye to the Bitco since moving of premises and could not find LOS. However, good news is that, I get to install fibre which is currently happening...

Anyone else having packet loss this evening?

Code:
Ping statistics for 154.127.112.141:
    Packets: Sent = 41, Received = 29, Lost = 12 ([B]29% loss[/B]),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 4ms, Maximum = 58ms, Average = 29ms

I just did an upgrade from 5 to 10 MB, and i have to say ... pretty impressive so far. I cant wait to get home and try netflix, ntv and hulu+ again. I might just go back to streaming if all goes well.

Had no issues at all on 10mbps, fibre comparable experience, they just wouldn't take more of my money to upgrade.

Bitco Honeydew is down for me this morning. Is it down for anyone else? We had a crazy storm here last night so I don't know if it's the tower or my own setup that's broken.
