you are most definitely missing something - --- if you trade on the luno exchange fees are zero if you use limit orders.
My understanding is that Luno has a 1% taker fee for small players with a accumulated monthly trade total of less than 10 BTC. Maker fee is 0%.

that is correct - so when buying if you put an order below price that is maker. above the price it is taker.

when you are selling -- above is maker an below is taker.

so if you trade using only maker orders -- > 0 fees

My understanding is a maker (creating liquidity on market) is a seller and a taker (reducing liquidity on market) is a buyer. Guess I was wrong

remember

when you are placing a buy order below the current price you are creating liquidity. aka maker

when you are placing a sell order above the current price you are creating liquidity. aka maker

as soon as you put any order at the current price you are removing liquidity from the book and you become a taker.

Apparently those dumps were mainly due to the Mt Gox trustee selling. Read that he is done for now as they have enough cash to pay off creditors.

im not convinced by this -- the dumping feels algorithmic.

almost as if it is programmed to dump at that time on some exchange.

but then again i am all for conspiracy theories against these exchanges:twisted:

Thanks. Will watch my fees more closely and report back regarding Luno fees

I think it might happen anyway just because people now expect it. So people will sell and create the dump without any help. It needs to swing the other way to get people to stop selling.

I suspect another dip to around $8.8k shortly. The trend for the last 3 hours is down. When there's low volume like this the trend usually wins.
