Bizarre - Durban

Since intalling LTE in Feb and having the external installed I've had nothing but bliss with speeds consistently around 40 mbs at 4 bars signal.

Well tonight my router went onto 3G and after rebooting have suddenly have lost 1 bar in signal strength (3 bars - it's even dropped to 2 at times) and am only getting 2 mbs download and 1 mbs upload. I've rebooted a couple of times to no avail and the external still looks secure and in place.

Anyone else in the Durban upper highway area having similar problems? I have no idea where to start trouble shooting this one?

Check your Cell ID. The tower might have gone offline due to a fibre break or power failure. If that is the case then your router will connect to another tower if possible and that tower would most likely be much further away than the one that went down.

You would need to check the Cell ID and compare it to the one you connected to before.

Fibre break takes the tower LTE down but 3G still works on that tower. Happened a couple of times for me on my LTE tower. They usually fix it fast though.

Thanks for the input and insight Cavedog.

The tower ID is something I never recorded but will definitely make note of it going forward to assist with future troubleshooting. Luckily all seems back to normal this morning.
