Black devil reinforces racial stereotype

LAST Friday what was supposed to be a joyous evening left a bitter taste in my mouth. I and my wife decided to go out for a meal and we chose the Spur in Humewood, next to the Holiday Inn Garden Court Hotel.

As we were placing our order there came a group of young lads wearing colourful gear and a sense of curiosity prompted me to ask our attendant, who was wearing uniform, what was happening. I was told that they were also staff members but there was some promotion, hence their gear.

As they were busy with their business something odd struck my eye. One white girl was wearing a white dress and a pair of huge wings, and a black girl was wearing a red robe, red horns on her head and with a long fork in her hand.

That disturbed me a lot. In this day and age there are still people who believe that the devil is black and the angel is white!

Racism is still embedded in our subconscious minds. The manager could have thought better.

In order to build a South Africa free of racism we need to be sensitive and conscious about such fallacies and dogmas.

I wanted to take the issue up with the manager, but my wife suggested otherwise, lest that spoil our outing. I left the place really disgusted.

I wonder if there was a reason behind the allocation of costume. Perhaps they even chose them for themselves?

I think the guy should have taken it up with the manager - he could very well have left the restaurant with a satisfactory answer.

Some people i will never understand??

Maybe the black girl wanted to be the devil cause the costume looked better or she wanted to be a little horny devil for the night or whatever... If i was the manager i would have laughed it right off and tell the guy to f@ck off!!!
Its people like him that that makes this country sour.... W@nker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An ******* looking for racism on every corner.

*Not that it matters, everyone knows only white people can get into heaven :D

Aubrey Ngeni .. I have never ever associated a black girl with the devil.
But .. thanks for putting that though in my mind.
It's encouraging to see people like you doing so much for your country.

He didn't write the letter.

/care for hurt feelings. boo hoo as Goobie said.

I don't think kids are afraid of bright white lights, they sure are scared of the dark.

This is just silly! Now the white chick HAS to be the devil? If we are so enlightened, why can't we all be devils and angels? The editor is an idiot for even printing the letter. What the ****?!!? This is just stupid!

Okay, if this person can throw his/her toys I can throw my toys about the white guy that now always gets depicted as the idiot in the cellphone adds! WTF is up with that? Use two black folks then, one dumb as a rock and the other smart as a whip!

Perhaps the parents are to blame - my child has no fear of the dark whatsoever.

man... soon it will be racist that snow white is always white.

FFS, why does everything have to be about race. People are forever reading things into situtations that are not even there. Maybe if the Gov didn't jump on the race card every chance they get, we could start to look for things in common instead of looking for things that differentiate us.
