Black devil reinforces racial stereotype

LAST Friday what was supposed to be a joyous evening left a bitter taste in my mouth. I and my wife decided to go out for a meal and we chose the Spur in Humewood, next to the Holiday Inn Garden Court Hotel.

As we were placing our order there came a group of young lads wearing colourful gear and a sense of curiosity prompted me to ask our attendant, who was wearing uniform, what was happening. I was told that they were also staff members but there was some promotion, hence their gear.

As they were busy with their business something odd struck my eye. One white girl was wearing a white dress and a pair of huge wings, and a black girl was wearing a red robe, red horns on her head and with a long fork in her hand.

That disturbed me a lot. In this day and age there are still people who believe that the devil is black and the angel is white!

Racism is still embedded in our subconscious minds. The manager could have thought better.

In order to build a South Africa free of racism we need to be sensitive and conscious about such fallacies and dogmas.

I wanted to take the issue up with the manager, but my wife suggested otherwise, lest that spoil our outing. I left the place really disgusted.

I would really love to hear the true back story, from the girls.

No, we need a South Africa free of racists. ;)

You have so much built up anger, it's sad. - Maybe you should go for counseling.

The question is not why the devil was black, the question is why was it RED?
Maybe the red guy wasn't actually the devil?

The Lost Dogs
Why is the Devil Red?

Why is the Devil red?
Why ain't the Devil blue?
Why is the Devil red?
Why is the Devil you?

You give the Devil a pitchfork
You give the Devil horns
You give the Devil sulfur
You give the Devil corns
Does he look like Robert DeNiro
With big long fingernails?
Does he make you dance like Charo?
Or sing like Jerry Vale?

Who's that lookin' like an angel of light?
Who's that dressed in a gown of white?
Who's that saying everything's all right?
Who's that grinning in the dead of night?

Why is the Devil red?
Why is the Devil red?

You give the Devil hot breath
You put him on a tower
You give the Devil about 15 toes
You give him his Devil power

Who's that lookin' like an angel of light?
Who's that dressed in a gown of white?
Who's that saying everything's all right?
Who's that grinning in the dead of night?

My dad has an auto electrical workshop and it is company policy that no customers are allowed in the workshop area. This is because accidents can happen and the last thing you want is a customer injuring himself in your workshop. The technicians also get annoyed when they have customers looking over their shoulder and quizzing them while they are working. Yesterday a guy brings in his taxi for repairs. After a while the guy and his friend came strolling into the workshop, ignoring the sign that says " No unauthorized entry to workshop area". When they were asked please to wait outside or in reception the guy chirped " Why dont you just put up a sign saying "NO BLACKS". So they promptly returned his taxi to him and asked him to please have it repaired elsewhere.

What terrible racists we are!!

/sarcasm off

I think the guy should have investigated... he would have found that the kids chose their favourite costume...

one question ... why is it always the other side that is complaining 1st about such things ?? :confuzed:

edit: and if it's such a touchy subject where were the indian girl then ?? and the coloured girl ??
and they needed 2 of each ... one half plays devil and the other half the Angel ... this would have costed 3 times the price but hey .. @ least a moron would have been kept happy ...
