Black Ops - "Server disconnected - Steam connect failed"

Damn.

Is steam still down? Are they doing maintenance? It still won't open on my pc.

Also, when I check my game validation log in program files, it says that 1 file failed to validate - "Validation failure: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\BlackOpsMP.exe."

What does that failed validation mean? Could it be the cause of my problem? What can I do to fix it? This is so unnecessary - it should just work.

Ok, i've done that now too. I'm currently uninstalling both the game and steam (everything) and will re-install it all in a few minutes. After that, all the updates that have come out over the duration of the game being out will download automatically and simultaneously.

Then, I will test the local servers again and see if the problem remains. The validation is nothing - a friend of mine who can play without problems also has the same in his gamevalidation log.

Apparently my line has a lot of resistance, which I have asked 'the service provider whose name cannot be spoken' to fix. Whether it's going to be done or not is anyone's guess.

UPDATE: after 3 weeks of waiting, my game is now working. the solution - router firmware upgrade.
