Am I the only one that gets charged for the On Phone Data usage. Since I got my BlackBerry Weekender with the BIS bolt on I have been paying for my on phone browsing.

Contacted the help desk and apparently I will be credited with the next account run. Hope that they fixed it otherwise this will go in for ever.

Just remember, some data do not travel via the Blackberry APN. If you open up the Vodafone browser for example on your phone, that will be chargeable data as soon as you travel outside the Vodafone Live portal. Carefull also of streaming vids via youtube as I think this might also incur a data charge.

Remember, always use the Blackberry Browser (The one that does not have the Vodafone logo). Normal website browsing will not incur a charge....streaming might...perhaps VD would just like to clarify this.

If you would like, you can PM me your number and I can check on the system for notes and or workflows for a requested/pending credit on your account.

Hi Ocleroux, Thank you so much for the input.
1. I'm only using the BlackBerry browser and the default engine is set to "Internet Browser"
2. I'm not using the Vodacom Live Browser.
3. Streaming vids I'm well aware of and have taken that into consideration.

Have you set your APN to blackberry?

Options > Advanced Options > TCP/IP

My APN settings was disabled and no APN entry was there !!! Why in the world! The call center went through all the other settings with me except this one.

1. The GPRS is in caps = BIS is this not so by default on the correct APN?

2. I have now enabled it and entered "blackberry" Is this correct? username and password? should there be anything?

3. What happens when I use my Wireless at home with the TCP/IP settings changed?

Hi, I am having the sam problem but on MTN. The store checked my phone and all the settings are ok. Got an itemised bill, but it does not show where my rand value disappears to. Lodged a query, so will see what will happen. In the meantime I have deleted all my service books and had them resend by logging into my blackberry mtn account. It seems better now, but still a few cents dissapear each day.

The guys at vodashop told me that as long as the letters on the top right corner are Capital Letters then its using BIS. i.e. gprs - GPRS / edge - EDGE / 3g - 3G. I've seen my blackberry phase through all of these when the phone powering on. its starts lowercase but then quickly moves to ALL CAPS.

I have some questions and I really hope some knowledgeable people can assist.

1) Downloading apps from Blackberry App World; does this use BIS or will I be charged for downloading these?
2) Google Mobile; I assume I will pay for the initial download of the application? But when I use the app thereafter, for example, google maps mobile, will I be charged for data usage?
3) How do I literally force my blackberry to only allow BIS network traffic, i.e. it should ask for my permission everytime the phone is about to leave the blackberry.net APN portial or whatever or it should warn me that I am about to incur data charges....

All knowledge passed on in this space comes highly appreciated :) thnx!
