Blackberry Bold Tips/Tricks/Apps Thread

Options - advanced options - TCP - under APN type 'blackberry.net', leave rest blank and save.
This will disable the vodafone/Mtn browser and disbale most applications from going through the Vodacom/MTN APN. Only Mxit and the new MTN Garmin software can bypass these settings.

Are there any mtn shops were you can just walk in and ask them for an os update?

I don't have a real internet connection and if I download through phone its going to cost an arm ans a leg.

Thanx

There aren't, they'll send it away for a month first. Just buy a prepaid card and some airtime and do it that way.

Well I'm going to be a first time BB storm owner in a couple of days time. Although the sales person told me to stay away from the storm due to software issues...

I see there is a new 4.7 OS released for UK vodafone.

Where are we supposed to get this officially and not to void the vodacom warrenty? I see there are BB OS's for download on vodacom's website but nothing for the storm. Is this the place we should officially get it?

You can download the new OS's from crackberry.com and don't worry you will not void the warranty as they are official OS's from Blackberry.

Just read the instructions carefully when upgrading and remember to delete the vendor.xml

Here is the link to the proper upgrading and downgrading of software.

You will void the warranty when upgrading your firmware if not supported by your service provider. There is no other way other than to wait for an official release or upgrade in the meantime and roll back to the original version if ever you need their support.

Ok, before you judge me - there is no search option when I browse here with my bold.

Is there any website where you can download free message alert tone where you don't need to log in. I don't want songs just voice probably.

I wonder if anyone can help: I've got a BB Curve 8900 on an MTN anytime contract with a BIS subscription. I'm trying to play the Texas Hold'em (poker) game online but whenever I try to sign up i get a message that says unable to connect to the server? My friend has the same phone on Vodacom also with a BIS subscription like mine and when he signs up it goes through to the server perfectly.

My blackberry services are all working. Just wandering if the MTN BIS blocks or if theres a way around it with settings and what not? P.S. I've edited all the permissions for the application to "allow" and still the same thing:( thanks in advance

My dad is getting a Bold on his upgrade and I am planning on taking it from him, he is on MTN and I am on Vodacom... is it a easy job to flash the software, with Vodacoms firmware?

What GPS software is available for MTN users?
I have heard that MTN partnered with Garmin to offer the mobile version of their software for the Bold but nothing was offered to me when I signed my contract.

Dial *123# and select the Blackberry Navigation option (free). But note that the Garmin app sometimes uses the MTN APN for will you will be charged standard data rates. Blackberry Maps is always free.

what exactly does it download through the MTN APN and what would the charge amounts come to roughly?

Hmmm ok so yesterday evening I charge my Storm. At about 11pm it’s done and fully charged. I unplug it and I’m off to bed. This morning when I looked at it the battery is entirely drained. Eh? Has this happened to anyone?
