Help please. I'm pulling out my hair here trying to download .pdf files with no luck. Whenever I click on a link to download a pdf it opens in the browser but when I click download file it immediately says 'download failed'. I have tried pdf's from different sites with the same problem. Anybody have a solution?

That's weird I can't get pdf's to open in my browser. Are they small? While the download limits on most files seemed to have been moved down, pdf's seem to be subject to the old limitations. Have you tried it using the browser emulating firefox or blackberry (whichever you aren't using)?

Yep I also noticed that I can only open small pdf's. They open up in the BB browser but won't download. I've tried the different browser settings but always get 'download failed' and it drives me nuts. I am very happy about the other files download size limit though. I have downloaded a few hundred MB's of mp3s and its awesome being able to download pretty big .exe files (BB Media Sync was 32MB) for free.

If only I could download pdf's!

I was stunned to find a pdf that did open in my browser. The solution might be to disable 'open embeded media' from the options. I sucessfully downloaded the file, so it does work. Try again.

Nope, not working for me. It downloads between 30-100kb and then FAILS every time. A 60kb PDF did download but what's the use of that. I have fiddled with all the browser options. I'm wondering if its the 216 firmware causing trouble. Thanks anyway.

Hi, just downloaded a 1.4mb pdf on vodacom, using the 224 firmware.
don't have any pdf reader though :)

I just went from OS .216 to .237 and its very good. After reboot I start at about 53mb of memory and it goes down to about 45mb at the lowest at this stage.

Battery seems better but I will report back after a few days. Browser is faster, will try and download a few big files now.

Just a update on the battery life on the OS .237

At this stage I am running at about 9 hours with 90% battery life remaining.

This includes a few calls made, BB messenger, emails, Viigo, MSN and a bit of browsing.

**Update 1**

After 14 hours I am at the 75% battery remaining. Another 2 calls and Internet Browsing downloading some movie trailers.

**Update 2**

I just got up and after 25 hours the battery is at 65% remaining.

**Update 3**

After 33 hours I am on 35% battery life remaining with heavy use. Themes download, watching a episode of How I met your mother.

**Last Update**
At hour 49 I am at 15% battery life remaining.

The .237 OS if definitly very good but I just read that the newst Official OS from RIM is .244
So now the question is: Do I upgrade again?

Here is the link if anyone is intrested for .244

Ordered my Bold today and should get it on Friday from ITalk. Looking forward to re-reading this thread with the Bold in my paws.

Do any of you know of a app that can do Podcast's downloading. I am looking at the moment at Podtrapper but don't know if there is anything else out there.

Xberry Live

Here is a app for your Blackberry so that you can see who is online on Xbox Live.

I don't know about you but I am a HUGE Xbox360 FanBoy! I don't know how many times I wished there was an app that I could put on my BlackBerry to show me who on my friends list was online and playing what. Enter Xberry Live!, your new best friend to see who's playing, what that person is playing, and what games have they played in the past (as long as that person has all of that enabled in their preferences). You don't just have to add your friends off your list, you can add anyone with a Xbox Live Gamer Tag!

One feature that was added into this application is the ability to know when there is a newer version out and it will let you know to update the app. Keep in mind that this is a BETA app so there may be some minor bugs (only install if you're comfortable with beta apps). Xberry will work for BlackBerry smartphones running OS version 4.2.1 and up and it is available on 81xx, 83xx, 87xx, 88xx, and 9000!

To download, type in this URL in your BlackBerry's web browser:

Hi All,

New member here. Just got myself the bold last week from mtnsp and this thread has been a great help in getting to know how to setup/use the phone and its limitations etc. Thanks to oronte, assagai, Sensorei, Krypty and everyone else - ive learned a lot!!

I like the phone quite a lot - its responsive, fairly straight forward to use and good features all round. The camera sucks, but i can live with that. The battery life also sucks and I havent really investigated any battery saving options as yet. (mine came with firmware .162 and havent bothered upgrading as yet - is there any reason to? Does the battery life improve noticably?

Whilst looking at some power saving tips online, i came across something called a "battery pull" - anyone ever tried it? http://www.blackberryboldforum.com/index.php?topic=396.0

Ive had a difficult time trying to sync my contacts on os x with pocketmac (available for free from the RIM blackberry website). If anyone else is having problems syncing contacts, calender etc on the mac, check out this thread and follow the two steps at the bottom of the post (i.e. running syncClean and datapurgeUI) and things should sync nicely again. http://forums.crackberry.com/f62/problems-pocketmac-follow-these-steps-first-33757/

Anyways thanks for the great tips!

Hi, i recommend the latest .247 firmware, best connectivity/battery out of all the versions I've tried to date. With other firmwares i often had to pull the battery but haven't since the latest update. Had no problems with pocketmac, wish rim would update that old thing!

a Battery pull is just physically pulling the battery from the unit. This reboots the BB. The on/off of the BB is more like a sleep mode personally.

In the new versions of the OS they have improved the battery life and with less memory leaks it is worth the upgrade. I would recommend OS .237 or higher.
