I use bbc mobisite to get all the live comments and highlights but have to refresh to be updated but I'm addicted to it

In BB App world there is an app called Goal Mobile in the Sport / Recreation section will provide exactly what you want, from SWC 2010, English, Spanish, Italian Leagues etc, enjoy!

I've got both thanks :) Maybe the viigo was just a bit slow that day, gave me no current scores no matter how many times I refreshed.

I'm gonna start using the Guardian website, they usually have min-by-min scores, will check out BBC pronto, thanks.
 
Mms problems (using vodacom)

i do experiance the same problem, everything else from email to internet is working wonders,
im just confused at why i cant retrieve mms and when i try send i get a red cross as it fails,
pls if u dont mind let me know if you got yours sorted, thankyou
 
Hey guys

Just got my Blackberry 8520 today (the new one). However all it wants to seem to do is connect to Wi-Fi. How can I get it to connect to GPRS or EDGE? Also do I need the BIS to be activated to browse the internet using GPRS/EDGE?

@ Chris, you don't necessarily need to have BIS activated. To browse the internet you'll need to use your WAP browser, which will be the VLive! icon.

EDIT: Sorry, my mistake. I just reread your post; to connect to GPRS/EDGE you DO need BIS activated. For gprs/edge, you don't need BIS. :)

You need to get your BIS activated from your Service Provider.

When BIS is activated it will show depending on coverage either EDGE or GPRS in capital letters at top of screen.

If it is still only showing gprs or edge in lowercase letters then BlackBerry Internet Services are not activated yet on your account.

Please note that you will be charged Out of Bundle rates from your Service Provider whenever you use the WAP Browser, even if / when BIS is active.

I normally just hide the VLIVE or MTN browser from view and also add the blackberry.net APN settings to prevent unwanted Extra billing.
 
Hi all.

I have 2 questions with the wife's BB 8520.
1. I had the dreaded 523 error message. I re-installed the phone software and now we don't have blackberry maps anymore.
2. Also, it does not seem to be synchronising contacts with outlook like it did before. I did delete the desktop service books on advice from the net because she was getting 30 network@etp emails every day

Has anyone got a solution to this (apart from downloading the maps from Blackberry - tried this and got lds_ribbon loader which does nothing) and is this a problem which may be solved by installing OS 5? Can you install OS 5 on VC on a 8520?

Apologies for the questions, I just have no ability with this device at all. I find it incredibly counterintuitive but the wife loves it, so struggle I must.....

How did you manage to get the 523 error? That doesn't just happen? Best advice is to search for the newest OS5 (see www.blackberryforums.com) and install it from any network (just delete the vendor xml file).
And Blackberry's are hardly counter intuitive you're just used to whatever device you're currently using so BB seems that way to you. Anyone who's really used one for a period of time would agree they're much easier to use than most other phones.

Sorry, didn't mean to cause offense with the "counterintuitive" remark.

Your point is well made. My wife HATES my iphone. It is what you are used to. Unfortunately, it seems like I'll have to get used to working with hers as she just wants the thing to work. The 523 error DID just happen. Battery ran flat, and when she started it again, Boom, there it was. I think it may have had something to do with apps that were installed (we think Bolt was the cause as it was the only new app) But appreciate the help and will try the latest software.....
 
I used to have a Bold 9700 before a man with a gun took it. I am now using a Curve 8520.

The Curve has actually surprised me considering my first experience with a Blackberry was the Bold 9700. I do have some issues with the OS though as it is still on OS 4.6.272. I would like to upgrade to a version 5 of the OS. Will this void my warranty?

And secondly, is there a way for them to trace my old Blackberry based on the pin? Surely if someone uses it they can find it?
 
Can anyone who setup wireless give me some help. Under manager connections the wireless displayes a white dash insted of a green tick. Should it work with any home wifi connection>?
 
Please help. I don't know much about the BB and just got the Curveabout a week ago. 1st few days I could surf the net from the phone but now I cannot. I do not have the Add-On service. Is there anyway to get to normal websites from the Curve without having the Add-On Service @ R59 per month? I am on vodacom top up 135.

Odds are people just don't know. Generally post count doesn't make that big a difference here.
 
@ Alleng - most people using the BB have the add-on service, so the probably, as messugga says, don't know the answer. Particularly if it did work, not sure what you could try except check onder tools/advanced/tcpip and try DE-selecting "APN settings and authentication enabled" because if these are set the device will only work through BB APN.
Not sure what else other than to contact Vodacom 155
Ditto for MrHockey re tracing the old BB.

@Mr Hockey: upgrading will not affect your warantee, but if it's not the one officially supported by your network then before you return (if it breaks or something) then you'll just have to flash it with their latest firmware (if it doesn't break then no worries).
I don't know if you can trace your bb with a pin (probably can) but I doubt the networks or police will be helpful in this regard (but contact your sp anyway) if you reported your phone stolen and got it greylisted (as you should have done) then no one could use it now.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 and am quite happy with its messaging and multimedia features. The screen seems to be quite clear and the track pad is awesome to use. What I am missing here is 3G high-speed data support :( BlackBerry Curve 8520 still works on EDGE data network, which is adequate for messaging but slow for web surfing--even with the unit's snappy Web2go browser.
 
Okay guys. I'm lost! I've just been given a BlackBerry Curve 8520 (on MTN network) from my dad and it seems I can't surf the web! I keep getting "This is a Wi-Fi service. Please ensure your device has an active Wi-Fi connection and try again". I see the letters "edge" (small caps) at the top. What do I have to do to be able to surf the web? Any help would be much appreciated!

Ps: I do not have access to a wireless network, hence the need for browsing the web without it!

I need assistance as well please! I tried to update my device software (contacted Vodacom data and the guy there gave me the website I could go to to download software version 5). Anyway, I plugged in my BB after installing the disc that came with it. Problem 1 - it tries to syncronyze the pc e-mail with the blackberry. My BB is getting my work e-mails. My home PC has my personal e-mails. I don't know the settings of my work e-mail - when they activated my BB, they said they could get my settings for me - all I needed was my e-mail address and my password. Now I have problems trying to sync the two and my BB desktp manager don't wanna do anything till it syncronizes with Outlook! Problem 2, I eventually managed to get around that (but would still appreciate help in getting my outlook 2007 setup), is that now when I click download on the website, it says it can't update my software as I am activated on BES! I called Vodacom immediately, and they say no, I am on BIS! They say if I want to update my software, to go to a Vodashop. Bt they are going to give me version 4.6, which I have! Was just lucky to get someone at Vodacom who gave me the site to get version 5. Please help (if you'll can sift through all the babble above) :) Thanks!
