BlackBerry is not dead

I don't know a single Blackberry user who can't wait to migrate to iOS or Android. I'm not a technophobe but using my mom's Blackberry Torch gives me a major headache. Worst OS ever. Unless RIM does something miraculous their platform will surely die out, as the cost of data is becoming less of an issue.

Vanishing might be the right word exactly.

Radical rethink of the systems architecture and company focus is the only thing that can save them.
1. get rid of BIS network as it is currently - replace with uncapped internet negotiated with local providers on client only devices
2. Adopt Windows phone 8 as operating system.
3. Focus on Corporate and SME markets where Microsoft's integration will lock in corporate users onto platform.
4. Redesign the BES architecture to ensure that BES phones connect directly to corporate BES server and not through RIM infrastructure.
5. Don't stop making hardware keyboard phones. Its a niece market that will save BB's from being swallowed up.
6. Start making quality phones again, like the bold 9000. All the stuff that followed were crap quality and unreliable.

That sounds like a fail strategy. If you look at the current leading smart phone makers (Apple & Samsung), you will notice how they're all about the consumer and not the enterprise. The enterprise is an after thought but they have still managed to steal users by the millions off blackberry who did the enterprise better than anyone else.
 
Actually they already lost the enterprise to Apple/Android. Their current strategy is targeting the 3rd world.
 
bb is getting squeezed out at the bottom end by networks losing potential data revenue (resulting in deteriorating qos) and at the top end by better alternatives (wp8 & surface from q4 2012). delaying bbos 10 is just going to allow ms a much needed foot in the door.

i'm assuming bottom-end phones (bogof deals etc) won't carry bbos10, and that they'll be wanting to flush old stock running up to 2013. this just means that the old os will be a persistent problem into 2013/14 and its shortcomings will be more obvious to loyalists.

i think it would be interesting to do a survey:

of current bb users, what will you next os be?

1. i'm holding out for bbos10
2. i'm holding out for wp8
3. android
4. ios
5. if i can get a cheap enough deal, i'll settle for a current bb model.
6. i would go for an android/ios/wp7 deal with bundled bb now.

It will never die in South Africa, there are millions of bored teenage schoolgirls who will have no life without BlackBerry.
 
Well they loosing at least one next year March. My wife will be getting an S3 and sell her BB9700.

BB will die sloooooooowly

Standard market dynamics - a fall happens later than predicted, but the fall is much harder than predicted.

Look at the big US market crash in 2008 - the Dow kept going up well after multiple warnings were sounded, but inevitably crashed down, and very hard.
 
2 word blackberry messenger... as long as RIM has it they will and can still make money... i see no reason why they cannot make a BBM app for android and IOS and then sell it at those respective stores... i know plenty of android and IOS users that wanna chat with BB users...

You're looking at the wrong way - if BB users want to talk to the rest of the world they can install WhatsApp

The same was said about Myspace. I think you underestimate the herd mentality of teenage girls. They'll find a new thing.
 
I've always wondered why Facebook hasn't released a cool messenger. The current application is okay but it can't replace a good instant messenger.

My daughter have both switched to Whatsapp on their BBs. They use Whatsapp now between other BB users more than they use BBM.

When I asked why, the one said BBM is terrible to use nowadays. I never questioned anything further. I personally moved on long ago.

Understood. Agree. But there is still hope. The fact that BB10/QNX is so close to Android will bring a lot of apps to BB in a very short time. Keep in mind that Android apps will anyway run on BB10 but they can with little change be made native.
