BlackBerry speed tests

Vodacom network upgrade imminent 24-10-09!

It is with mounting excitement that I watch the seconds pass by as we are literally a few hours away from 24 October 2009 when automagically all our Network performance related issues will become a thing of the past.

It is a little confusing to find the posts related to speed tests and slow network speed posts, as it has been buried two layers deep in a sub-forum.

While one can understand the reasoning for the _burials_ the timing is unfortunate as the upgrade as promised by VodacomData is imminent.

Really looking forward to tomorrow when Network performance related (Speed) issues will be something we can refer to as the past.

I have refrained from mentioning a product or device name for fear of this thread also becoming part of the burial service rendered to VC.

However, time will tell while I don my Positivity suit.

I have not seen nor heard an announcement from VodacomData that the upgrade has been implemented, can you post a reference to that effect, or can we assume that you have inside information that it has been effected.

The URL above seems to be incorrect, should be apps not alps, as well as the fact that the output of speeds has been bolded makes me feel a bit of editing was involved.

Lets see if anyone else is getting the fantastic speeds you so happily report.

It would be helpful if we also state EDGE, GPRS or 3G, handset type, location, such as JHB, CPT, DBN.

By the looks of things thus far it looks promising :D

Do you know how difficult it is to copy the text from the 9500 and then pasting it into the blackberry browser will shopping buying food in between

Well those are my speeds i felt the need to bold it as skeptics seem to miss it.

I had these types of speeds all day, your testament proves this as your device is EDGE enabled

Ask another 9500 to test

LOL, yes it does seem to be much better, in my case only so over the last hour.

Thinking of the new Bold 2 or Storm 2 and if this becomes consistent will pass my Curve 8520 to my daughter and it will be a toss up of either of the above.

See fismail also reporting fairly consistent performance, so look good for now.

Going to wait for some more individual results to be posted though ;)

Is anyone else getting speeds like these? I have to say that I've been very hesitant about posting my speedtest results lately as I'm not sure how accurate it is. I'm using version .186 because I deleted the later version when I kept getting connection problems and now I can't find it anywhere.

The results reflected below has never been achieved on my storm before even just after the previous upgrade the highest average download I got was around 800kbits/s and that was around 5am on a saturday morning.

I've closed the app after every test performed below before doing another one to clear the max speed. And during this time the average time to load a page was around 15-20 seconds despite the speed reported by the app. Downloading has been completed in excess of 50kb/s for 2mb files.

In the past I've been able to download 30mb zip files. Now I can't even download 5mb. Request entity too large so vodacom has decreased the file size limits. I hope that this will be restored. Especially for pdf files.

I've been looking for another speedtest app to compare results. I found Cisco's GIST. I'll test and post those results tomorrow. I'll also post the link for the app later.

Personally I've got no objection to a reduced max file size if it solves the network congestion problem. 5mb does seem a bit on the small side though.
