Blackberry Storm!

Been using the storm since early jan

They must be getting ready to release it here now, I see this week I got the option to install vodafone sat nav. That was'nt there before. Still a couple software issues with it. Just installed the latest OS 4.7.0.90 and must say it keeps getting better. No hardware isssues yet. For now I still reckon my bold is better, except for the camera and 3.6 mbps 3G. Input on the bold is much better, by far. So it depends what you going to be using the device for.

Good to find a Storm owner on here.What improvements have you found with the new OS update? What are the best/worst things you have found with the Storm?

That surepress click thing when typing looks incredibly frustrating. If only one had the option to turn it off and just touch type.

Sorry about the late post. OS 4.7.0.90 is pretty easy to get.
Just do a google search for it along with 9500 in the search field.
As for the improvements. You now have a full keyboard in portrait mode, which I must admit ,do not prefer.
Suretype is still better in portrait. In landscape mode the keys are now bigger and while I'm typing this I can feel the difference.
Will never be a proper keyboard. But does job well.
 
Thanks tried that but keep getting deleted files on megauploader or the 9530 version - if you still have the link please post it.

Hey V3G, I have been due an upgrade since Nov and since I don't feel like paying in about R7k for the HTC Touch HD (an indication from the pay in on a 350 package on MTN from Autopage) I decided to enquire about the Storm from the upgrades department.

I am simply astounded that these people have absolutely no idea about the Storm (or even the HTC HD, SE C905, etc), especially give their marketing hype about the phone :mad:

Do you have any idea when this phone will be available? I have preregistered on the website BTW and I'm currently on a talk 500s.

Hell, I may as well just go and get an iPhone and keep the TyTN II as backup (currently a serious consideration......).

I saw the add campaign started on Sunday for the Storm, the stock is here and I got my unit today, so I think it must be pretty much now?
 
Like pulling hen's teeth but found out that the launch is on Friday....
 
we have been told the 29th.... but as V3g says stock is in the channel
 
VC upgrades department has the Storm available now. Pay in is R1999 on a talk 500s.
 
The Launch was today just been to vodaworld. Blackberry Storm is R999 PM X 24 but there isnt any stock they expecting in the next 2 weeks but if you want to buy it cash its R8500 at the Blackberry store theres only 12 handsets so first come first served.The screen on the phone is amazing but the click screens a bit bothersome

R 8500 is not to bad. Where is the BB Store in JHB/Pta area?
 
Sorry forgot to add that the R999 pm is on a Blackberry Talk 500 so you get 500 anytime minutes,unlimited email,unlimited browsing,sat nav....etc.So its quite reasonable comparing it to the normal talk 500 which is R800 a month.
 
No it's not. The Blackberry Service is only an extra R60 a month, not R200. That price is just ridiculous and considering that it's not really better than the Bold I don't know how Vodacom can justify ripping off their customers yet again. Save yourself R650 a month and get the Bold on MTN 200 (BB service included).
 
After the initial reports from the US, I was not convinced that this thing was going to work. So it was with some reservations that I started using it earlier this week.

Must say, I'm more than pleasantly surprised. The biggest concern I had was if the touchscreen could rival the iPhone and if the tactile feedback makes sense.

But already I'm finding I'm more sure typing on the Storm's screen and the tactile feedback actually speeds up typing and reduces errors by some margin.

For example, on the iPhone, if you browse myBB's mobile site, you get a large number of quite small links. If you accidentally touch the wrong link, it immediately executes and you must then first go back and select the correct link.

Only way to avoid it is to first zoom in, click the link and then zoom out again.

On the Storm, when you touch the link, it will highlight. If it is the correct link you push down for the click and it executes.

No more false key entries. Very nice, must say.

And on the Storm you can do SMS and E-mail in landscape with a full QWERTY keyboard.

I see the .90 firmware is getting positive reviews in the US, seemingly fixing most of the problems people had with the initial releases there.

We're on .87 at the moment and will get the official update soon. Most likely higher than .90.

So, at this point this might well be the "Bold+iPhone" converged device I've been asking for. Time will tell. :)
