Blackberry Tablet aka PlayBook unveiled

Well the size for starters is much more practical. The ipad is too big for carrying around with you and even too heavy for ebook reading.

I see Amazon already announced that their Kindle App will run on this...

and i find interesting that their specs clearly notes this:

Looks Great. Will definitely get one. Take this over the ipad any day. The size is not too big, which makes more sense.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is also secretly working on a 7" iPad "Nano". It's the size we want. BlackBerry is on the right path here. I like the Flash support. Pity about the timeframe ... middle of next year outside of US :-( . The name doesn't make sense to me ... a tablet aimed at business users called the Play ... Book? Not the sharpest name imo.
 
The thing sounds useless to me IF you do not have a Blackberry phone....

Why would I want to sync with my phone just to read emails, calendars, etc from the phone????
 
bsntombela, the PlayBook - a WiFi only device for now - can connect to a 3G/HSPA network via your BlackBerry using Bluetooth. Via Wi-Fi you will be able to access your email etc without the phone. A 3G/HSPA version using BES/BIS will come later.
 
I think this pairing of pad and phone to access BIS/BES is very nifty. One would want to keep both devices sync'd as well. BlackBerry is going about this in a smart way. They are focussing on app development and they are making it easy and free for developers to get into the action and make money. In an overcrowded Apple app world where it's very difficult to stand out to make money this is very attractive. I've read somewhere recently that serious developers prefer to develop for BlackBerry as there's far more money to be made (less competition and much bigger margins).

I hope this makes a strong enough statement that BlackBerry is not about to fall over an die, as some wants us to believe. This may well convince me to stay with BlackBerry as my primary device family (yeah, it will now become a family with the PlayBook).
 
The blackberry tethering is genius, especially if Playbook users will be able to surf to their hearts content using the BIS connection. I foresee some pretty good PlayBook/Curve 3G bundles being offered in the future. :)

Apple could have done the same thing but it would have hurt iPad 3G sales.
 
I hope someone brings out something "affordable" that allows me to read downloaded pdf magazines and e-books.

Ipad is way overprised!

lol, these companies are so silly....

i've been hearing about iPhone Killers for years now - I guess this will be the era of 101 "iPad killers" coming our way :D
 
I've not read anywhere where the PlayBook is pitched as the next iPad killer (and RIM will not try to do so). RIM is doing what RIM should be doing. Yes, Apple created the pad industry but it makes sense for others like RIM to follow. RIM started the e-mail pushing "industry" and now Apple is following. BTW, RIM is pushing hard with BBM and that is key in all of this (a fact everyone seems to miss). BBM is what I use most - my BB's killer app.
 
The kindle is fine for ebooks but not for colour magazines, as far as I understand.
I read PC Gamer, Xbox world, other publications I get from rapidshare on a laptop at the moment - would be ideal to read them off a small tablet device.

Yes, sure... The iPad was the first of its kind... The only thing that Apple did was market the crap out of an old gadget and like always all the "Apples" went and bought it believing what Steve says...

The iPad is NOT the best tablet out there, not by far.. It's just been marketed as such, Apple is just a marketing company, nothing really innovative about them...
